THREE FOR AUTUMN BLOOM Carries 117 Pounds and Defeats Shorty 0. on Heavy Track at Wheeling-. WHEELING, W. Va., April 17. Autumn Bloom, the Actuary gelding owned by W. T. Magruder, picked up 117 pounds here today and scored his third consecutive victory of the meeting in winning the Belair Purse, feature of todays program. The races were again run on a heavy track. There was much interest in the meeting of Autumn Bloom and Shorty O., as each had won two races and the contest turned out to be strictly between this pair. Autumn Bloom had a little the better of the luck, as he was in the clear all the way, while Shorty O., after being crowded back by Colonel Selh, had to work his way up on the outside in the stretch. He tired -when it seemed that he had a chance to catch Autumn Bloom and the latter went on to win without much difficulty. Colonel Seth was third. Favorite players cashed in the first race when W. F. Knebelkamps Sureway won by two lengths, defeating the recent winner, Paquette, which was second choice. Doc Conner, also well played, finished third. Sure-way got away in front, lost the lead briefly, then went back ahead and remained there. Toltec made a challenge, but tired in the stretch. Two Bills, racing for J. D. Stevens, won the second race, leading Braedalbane a"nd Vitalize. Panorel, carrying top weight, was backed almost to the exclusion of all others, but was never a factor in the running of the five furlongs.
