summer warmth brought out a big crowd and the course was at its best as the time attested though there was one shower during the afternoon that drove the crowd to shelter but did not affect the track trackIt It was a good day for fast sprinting for in the second race before Judge Schilling had performed Frank Browns Starpatic raced six furlongs in 111 which was the seasons record until the running of the Jamaica Handicap HandicapStarter Starter Cassidy sent the Jamaica Handicap field away quickly and it was a good start Judge Schilling began fast and Lace was right with him Polydor an added starter racing for William Ziegler Jr was right with them but Garner almost at once ran into trouble and was forced to take up slightly Hilaria had come over a bit causing the trouble and as Schenk bumped his way past with her she was in second place and half a length before Polydor Grattan was following the Ziegler sprinter and Lace had dropped back slightly while Chatford and Justinian were in the TOLYDOR IJf TROUBLE TROUBLETurning Turning out of the back stretch Judge Schilling held his lead and Catrone permitted him to draw away slightly Hilaria was doing her best in second place and Lace was moving up on the outside This soon had Polydor in close quarters again and he was subjected to some roughing and did not have free racing room Grattan was doing his best while both Chatford and Justinian were beginning to make up ground The lead of Judge Schilling had kept him free of trouble and as he turned into the stretch he had enough left to draw away easily until at the end he had five lengths to spare Lace rac ¬ ing gamely had saved second place by half a length and Justinian finished with a rush on the outside to earn third from Chatford ChatfordIn In the stretch Polydor was subjected to more interference when Garner kept him on the inside and there was no time in the race that he appeared to have a fair racing chance Hilaria after her early exhibition of speed quit so badly as to be last lastAfter After the opening race for cheap ones was pruned down considerably by withdrawals it proved rather easy for Bourbon Maid from the Tededul Stable She took an early lead and was well clear at the end Talky rac ¬ ing for Mrs E Mulrennan took second place when he outfinished My Brentwood Girl and the others followed along in strung out order My Brentwood Girl actually began in front but she was soon headed by the winner Critchfield making every use o the speed of Bourbon Maid soon had her five lengths clear and racing well in advance of My Brentwood Girl who was just showing the way to Talky the three of them dominating the race raceCrossing Crossing the finish Bourbon Maid was still three lengths before the others while in the final sixteenth Talky outgamed My Brentvood Girl to beat her by half a length for second place Fatigue finished resolutely to be fourth while the others cut scant figure figureTJIIltD TJIIltD STRAIGHT VICTORY VICTORYFrank Frank E Browns Starpatic won his third consecutive race of the meeting in the Hurri ¬ cane Purse the second race He made the fastest time of the meeting for threequarters running the distance in 1 11 The fast time was necessary to beat Mrs George Carrolls filly Okaybee in the final strides Well back of the first two Fantad beat Holiday rather handily for third place while the only other starter was Vast from Quiiicy Stable StableThe The start was a good one and Okaybee at once raced into command and set a fast pace She was soon two lengths clear of the others Starpatic and Vast were back of her and Holiday was another two lengths back and racing with Fantad The filly ran the first quarter in 22 and that was a pace that increased her lead to three lengths but Ellis had not asked Starpatic for his best and he Avas waiting until that pace would take its toll Okaybee got to the half in 45 and she swung into the stretch still clear By that time Starpatic was beginning to race Coutlnucd on twentieth iiase FAST THREEQUARTERS Continued from first page in earnest In the final furlong Okaybee finally tired from her fast pace and thd brown colt drew alongside It was a hard finish but the son of Star Master was past the line winner by a half length This final duel took the pair out five lengths before Fantad which outfinished Holiday HolidayA A close finish occurred in the third race when Mrs J P Smiths Sun Forward just beat L H Rowes Sepoy which was making his first start of the year One reason for the finish being so close was that La verne Fator on Sepoy plainly outrode Mc Kechnie Fator beat the others away with Sepoy and rushing him to the rail on the first turn he forced the pace and had the old son of Wrack under steady restraint restraintSun Sun Forward was close alongside Sepoy as they showed the way by a good margin over Billy Leonard and the others followed along well out of it in the finish of the mile mileSepoy Sepoy held his lead until well into the stretch and Sun Forward was forced to go outside in the stretch Sepoy was plainly tired but Fator was nursing him along with rare skill while McKechnie was of little assistance to Sun Forward This was off ¬ set by the seasoning of the Smith campaign ¬ er and in the final strides he dropped his head down in front to earn the decision Billie Leonard had no trouble taking third place
