LEADER IN WEST INDIES BALTIMORE Md May G Jockey S Trenchard who rode on the Maryland tracks some few years ago was a visitor at Pimlico this afternoon Trenchard recently returned from the West Indies During the past win ¬ ter he rode at Trinidad Barbados and Ja ¬ maica Incidentally he rode the winner of the West Indian Derby when he piloted Hanco a halfbrother to the New Orleans Derby winner Michigan Boy to victory Trenchard headed the list of winning riders there and he plans to return to Jamaica next winter He explained the peculiar training methods adopted by horsemen in that coun ¬ try After a horse comes out of a race he is given all the water he can drink and is then given a shower bath He is permitted to take things easy and is never walked to cool him out but instead is permitted to stand in a shady spot These methods get results in the semitropics and that really is what counts
