THISTLE DOWN INAUGURAL Cleveland Meeting of Twenty Eight Days to Begin Today Sport Under Direction of Judge Joseph A Aaiurphy aiurphy IMenty of Good lliicing lliicingMaterial Material Available CLEVELAND Ohio May 27 Conditions never appeared more favorable for a banner meeting in Cleveland than those prevailing for the opening of the beautiful Thistle Down Park tomorrow The picturesque course is looking at its best with its new coating of paint and numerous floral decorations The track proper is in excellent condition and the weather outlook is ideal idealA A new openair paddock has been erected in the center of the field almost directly in front of the club house This will be used during favorable weather A new timers stand is another innovation All races will be started out of the Waite stall gate and the veteran starter James Milton will dis ¬ patch the fields fieldsThe The meeting is scheduled to run for twenty eight days and will be under the direction of judge Joseph A Murphy who will also serve as the presiding steward with Herman P Conkling and William S Lougee as his asso ¬ ciates Post time for the first race daily will be 2 15 p m The officials are now all on the scene the remainder of the list fol ¬ lows Judges Eugene W Bury Charles McLennan Sidney Brown clerk of the scales Charles McLennan racing secretary Eugene W Bury and patrol judge Thomas Day DayThere There are thirtyfive jockeys already regis ¬ tered with the clerk of the scales and the list includes many skilled pilots pilotsA A special train of twelve carloads of horses came in from Aurora 111 yesterday and three carloads from Louisville Ky which has made stabling accommodations at a premium The Aurora delegation included the exten ¬ sive strings of B A Jones and C B Irwin the latter racing here for the first time timeV V S KILMER REPRESENTED REPRESENTEDW W S Kilmer has a string of seven here for the first time in charge of W A Craw ¬ ford Other large stables include H G Bed well twelve head Woods Garth nine S Polk eight W R Coe six J Lee five Justa Farm Stable eight and Phi Chinn eighteen The latter string is being trained by J W Murphy MurphyJ J Fitzsimmons wired today from New York that he is shipping three head here at once onceM M A Smiths Boom is among the late arrivals from the East where he performed creditably of late lateThe The Cleveland Derby the inaugural running of which will take place Saturday June 7 has 15000 added and will be at one mile and onequarter A large list of entries has al ¬ ready been received for the important feature featureAH AH races announced in the condition book at one mile will be increased to one mile and forty yards This was made necessary on account of the space required to remove the stall starting gate from the track proper Contrary properContrary to the usual custom at the tracks in this vicinity no contributions will be accepted at the subscription booths after the iiorses pass the judges stand en route to the post Patrons are warned accordingly to avoid a lastminute rush and the prob ¬ ability of being shut out A new style ap ¬ proximate odds board has been erected in the center field on which changes will be posted at short intervals intervalsThistle Thistle Down Park one of the finest plants in the Middle West built at a cost of 750 000 gained instant favor with the racing pub ¬ lic beginning with its inaugural meeting here five years ago The new management has left nothing undone to keep up the high standard of the sport conducted over this beautiful course and a gala opening is as ¬ sured
