BROWN COLORS IN FRONT Starpatic Outruns Dunsany in Handicap at Belmont Park Veslchester Racing Association Program ProgramHade Hade Up of Overnight Races Racing Conditions Ideal NEW YORK N Y June G A program of overnight races was offered by the West chester Racing Association at Belmont Park today but excellent entertainment resulted and it was sport that brought out a big crowd Conditions were ideal and the track was at its best The best race of the day was the Ornament Handicap one mile for threeyearolds Frank E Browns Starpatic was the winner when he led home Mr Pembrokes Dunsany which in turn only nosed out Hornpipe from the Wheatley Sta ¬ ble for that part of the purse Two were started from the E R Bradley stable when Dick Thompson saddled both Buckeye Poet and Breezing Thru Buckeye Poet was used as the pacemaker and the son of Black Toney showed fine speed when he raced a half in 4G five furlongs in 58 and six furlongs in 110 110It It was natural that this should keep him well in advance but the fast pace took its toll in the stretch and at the end of six furlongs the son of Black Toney was show ¬ ing signs of tiring Workman had been rat ¬ ing Starpatic along well back of the leaders and turning into the stretch was forced to go outside to take a position positionStarpatic Starpatic proved good enough to give away the distance and a furlong out both he and Dunsany which had moved up on the in ¬ side had the Bradley colt beaten In the stretch Starpatic drew away to be winner by three lengths in 1 37 Hornpipe in the mean ¬ time was finishing with a rush and to many it seemed that he had beaten Dunsany for second place but that part of the purse was awarded the son of Dunboyne DunboyneAldershot Aldershot after racing close up most of the way was fourth but he was five lengths further back backMax Max Hirsch sent the first winner to the post when he saddled Blind Lane This filly made a show of her company to be winner by three lengths over Beau Jolie winner of five consecutive races ran a disappointing race There was a change in the equipment of the colt when blinkers were added He was never a contender Another that disappointed was VV H Travers Kensington KensingtonA A series of accidents marked the running of the short course steeplechase when Friar McGee unseated Jeffcott at the next to last fence and at the last Hermitage while lead ¬ ing went down with A Campbell and Rock over ridden by the amateur C White fell over him After these mishaps Toreador II from the Flying Horse Farm and ridden by C Pinon was winner with Huette from the Essex Stable racing to second place and Mrs F Ambrose Clarks Stout with G H Pete Bostwick in the saddle third Back of these Oakland and Lady Guinevere fol ¬ lowed in the order named namedAll All three of the riders were badly shaken up but it was reported that each had es ¬ caped serious injury The gelding Rockover was not so fortunate and he was taken from the field in the horse ambulance ambulanceTwentythree Twentythree platers went to the post for the threequarters dash over the Widener course that was the third offering and George Odom saddled the first and second when Marshall Fields Escutcheon and Milkman from the Rolling Plains Stable fought it out to finish a head apart in the order named W R Coes Cesarion finished easily and beat Yankee Doodle for third a half length Milk ¬ man was right with the contention from the early stages and in the final eighth Escut ¬ cheon closing resolutely outside of the field joined him and in the drive the filly proved the gamer to win by a head as has been told High and Dry gave considerable trouble before the start and she was finally sen ¬ tenced to the outside of the big company Twent companyTwent maiden twoyearold fillies started in the fifth race George D Wideners Sovi etta daughter of Stefan the Great and Last Straw proved easily best She took a safe lead and running straight and true was never really threatened threatenedW W R Coes Friaress outfinished the oth ¬ ers to take second place while Lee Rosen ¬ bergs Sunparched was going well at the end to save third from Sandplay one that had given considerable trouble at the post then raced close up all the way wayWorkman Workman completed his double of the day when he brought Mombasa home winner for the Dorwood Stable at the end of the pro ¬ gram It was a good riding exhibition for all through the final quarter Mombasa after having forced all the pace was quitting badly and AVorkman fairly lifted her past the line Spantaft which was only beaten by a nose was plainly better than the win ¬ ner at the end but Catrone was no match for Workman Third went to Chiefs War ¬ rior and Rumor on which Roehm was no assistance quit at the end after having raced in second place until well into the stretch
