TROPHY TO NELIE CUSTIS Daughter of Sir Barton Defeats Good Field at Fairmount Star o 3Forn Second and War Instigator Third in Hotel Statlcr Event Shasta Broom Is Victorious COLLINSVILLE 111 June 7 Nellie Cus tis the fleet daughter of Sir Barton finally won a race at Fairmount Park after having been close up in her last four starts when she captured the Hotel Stntler Trophy this afternoon defeating some of the best horses here over the mile and seventy yards route routeSecond Second to the Audley Farm filly was Star o Morn the recent winner of the Black Dot Stable and War Instigator running in im ¬ proved form was third thirdA A large Saturday crowd spent a pleasant and profitable afternoon The track remained fast and the winners in most instances were horses which received the greatest support Two other popular winnings were Mortana and Shasta Broom BroomInferior Inferior sprinters opened the program with a test at threequarters with the favorite Cash Play proving best of the nine that accepted but only after a strenuous drive due to the bold challenge of Angel Bright which raced to the place Blue Blood which was making her first start this year fin ¬ ished third thirdA A fourteenminute delay at the post was en ¬ countered due to the fractiousness of Howard Lee whic i refused to line up and bucked so briskly that he unseated jockey Cimerak who escaped injury Howard Lee was well played but was not a factor in the running runningThey They were off in good alignment with Cash Play showing the way as they traversed the opening quarter with Post Mistress in close attendance and Blue Blood leading the others As they rounded the turn Post Mis ¬ tress dropped back and Blue Blood took up the burden of forcing the pace and Angel Bright had reached third place Blue Blood challenged stoutly when the stretch was reached but Goodrich put his mount to hard urging and he drew away Angel Bright came with a good rush in the final sixteenth to get by Blue Blood and was closing rapidly on the winner at the end endMortana Mortana after several engagements finally won a purse for J L Wilson when he proved best of the band that answered the call for the threequarters second race Webster raced to the place with R McDonalds Kind Words third thirdThe The winner was installed the favorite and never left the ultimate issue in doubt after the opening quarter for Tommy Root who was astride the victor rushed him into a good lead and kept him in front under a mild hand ride Webster a forward con ¬ tender from the start moved up after en ¬ tering the stretch and made a game bid but could not menace the winner but did out finish Kind Words for the place Shasta Broom under the colors of the Brown Shasta Stock Farm accounted for the Indian Lake Purse run as the third race when he engaged six others of his own age Master Halligan won second place but only after a stubborn contest with Red Chili ChiliBattle Battle Sweep of which much was expected failed dismally in his effort and after racing prominently for a quarter mile dropped com ¬ pletely out of the race to finish sixth in the field of seven Master Halligan set the pace and was forced along at a fast clip by Laura Negley After going a half the latter dropped back and jockey J Judys efforts thereafter were of a feeble nature The win ¬ ner began rather slowly Jockey Kern dis ¬ played good judgment when he took him to the inside where he saved much ground He reached contention entering the stretch and sped by Master Halligan to a length advantage as they passed the finish The latter was tiring rapidly near the end and was doing his best to stall of Red Chili which finished with a belated rush and would have been second in another stride strideThe The Audley Farm is still the leading stable at the meeting having drawn 15684 from the secretarys office This establishment is followed by G Collins with GSSS Ed Mc Cuan is third with 6765
