AMERICAN DERBY WORKOUT WORKOUTJ J L Pontius Satisfied With Morn ¬ ing Gallop of Michigan Boy Tannery and Ned 0 Ready HOMEWOOD 111 June 7 J L Pontius owner of Michigan Boy the winner of the Louisiana Derby and having his next impor ¬ tant engagement in the 50000 added Ameri ¬ can Derby at Washington Park next Satur ¬ day is satisfied with the manner in which the son of On Watch is training Emerging from his one and oneeighth miles workout over the sloppy Washington Park track Fri ¬ day morning in excellent condition the colt is In racing trim and much benefited by the period of rest which followed his Preak ness race raceIn In his Friday gallop the colt found the footing to his liking1 and it was with no great effort that he traversed the nine furlongs in 203 He went the first half mile in 50y5 threequarters in 1 18 and the mile in 1 48 48Tannery Tannery and Ned O came out of their race Friday in good condition and while defeated by the good filly Ellice their camp fol ¬ lowers are extremely hopeful that next Satur ¬ day will find them showing their best form and in the thick of the American Derby con ¬ test from start to finish finishBoth Both Tannery and Ned O may start in the trial purse one mile and seventy yards next Tuesday and in that final preliminary may encounter other western candidates for Sat ¬ urdays race raceThe The Audley Farms Flyer which exhibited exceptional ability over a muddy track Fri ¬ day may try for Derby honors if the condi ¬ tion of the track is muddy for the running of the fixture
