AT SUNRISE, a likely filly, began fast and easily drew away from CHU CHU after reaching the stretch and, maintaining good speed under restraint, won with much to spare. CHU CHU moved up fast from the start, saved ground and tired, but outstayed SHAKER LADY. The latter, close up, raced wide entering the stretch and closed gamely. COTTON TIME had no mishaps. JEAN LAFITTE began slowly and remained a goodly distance back for a half mile, rallied with fine speed after going to the outside in the stretch and, closing with a rush, got up for a lucky win. NIFTY, probably much the best, but a victim of a careless ride, raced into command with a rush near the stretch, was then taken under restraint in the final eighth and Meade failed to note the winner in time to get her going again. DOUBLE HEART showed speed, raced a trifle wide and tired. AMYVALE raced well. TYPHOON closed with a rush. CATERER showed a good performance. HOT SHOT showed early speed. BIRTHDAY GIFT was done earlv. LADY WITT, saved behind the early pace, easily took command when called upon and, holding on well under strong riding, just lasted. SCARLET BRIGADE, probably best, was blocked when moving up fast on the last turn and, coming through on the inside in the stretch, closed fast. HIGH STORM forced the early pace under light restraint, but could not withstand LADY WITT. JACK BERRY saved much ground. BIG BUSINESS held on well. JEFF ONEIL quit. BURLAP was outrun. WHISK ARROW swerved badly in the first eighth and was cased back thereafter. SUNNY LASSIE, never far back and lucky to save much ground, closed gamely after going to the outside in the stretch and disposed of TOWN LIMIT in the final eighth. The latter showed speed, was under presssure after half a mile and tired badly. BETTY DERR began fast, saved ground while showing the most speed, tired after reaching the last five-sixteenths and Pool dismounted with an injured foot. LADY DEAN had no mishaps. The latter, taken to the lead, made a good pace, was holding on well when crowded by the winner in the final eighth and, racing in close quarters, outstayed LION HEARTED. The latter saved ground at the stretch turn and closed with good speed after going wide the final three-sixteenths. PORT O PLAY closed with a rush. IRENE T. began slowly and was moving up when bumped in the stretch. MY DAN quit. ROLL EM DOWN broke poorly.
