Clem McCarthy, internationally known racing authority, returned from Lexington to remain until after the Derby, which he will broadcast for the N. B. C. Honorable Frederick Sackett, former United States senator and present ambassador to Germany, and Mrs. Sackett witnessed todays racing at Churchill Downs. They will be in the Derby party of Vice-President Charles Curtis. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Swikard of Chicago were present today and are remaining for the Derby. Mrs. George B. Cox, widow of the political leader, motored from Cincinnati with a party of friends this morning. All will remain until Sunday or Monday. C. E. Simmons, Texas patron, who has been here for several days, expects Mrs. Simmons and his brother, P. J. Simmons, and sister-in-law from Fort Worth tomor-. row. The former Mr. Simmons has several horses here in charge of Phil Reuter, who plans to send his Laura Negley and Escoba Land to Bainbridge Park in charge of Tom Valentine. Reuter expects to ship the Simmons horses on Tuesday. Trainer Edward Haughton has Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Lightning Bolt, winner of the Florida Derby, in fine condition for his engagement in the Derby at Bainbridge Park a week from Saturday and plans to send the son of Wrack to the near Cleveland track next Tuesday night. Following that race Lightning Bolt will be shipped to Washington Park, to where Haughtons division of the Greentree Stable goes from here. Roy Carruthers, general manager of Ar-r lington Park, was called to Chicago on matters pertaining to improvements under way at that course, but he hopes to return in time to attend the Derby running. John F. Hayden, former manager of the Louisville baseball club, and Jack Mullery were arrivals from Bryn Mawr, Pa., where they are prominently known in commercial circles. —
