THORNCLIFFE TURF NOTES $ # TORONTO, Ont., May 14. Joe Bakus has taken over the horses of H. Phillips and W. H. Buck to train. Jockey W. Obert is back in Canada after an absence of several years. He is riding freelance this season. Joseph H. Johnson is here with the horses of the Maryland sportsman and breeder Major G. L. Stryker. He has several useful racers in his string, which includes, among others, Aziz. Jockey A. Mackechnie was an arrival. He came up from New York and will ride for the Eastland Farms during the Thorncliffe and Woodbine meetings. T. J. Doyle is en route from Baltimore to Thorncliffe with Nae Breeks and others that he will race this summer in Canada. John Turner, who is acting as assistant secretary and placing judge at Thorncliffe, will be at the Blue Bonnets and Hamilton meetings. W. J. Norton, who looks after the training of the Eastland Farms, had wonderful success up here last year. He plans to campaign on several of the Canadian tracks before returning to Saratoga. Jockey R. Simpson, who rode for the H. G. Bedwell stable in Maryland this spring, has signed up with J. Goff.
