CODICIL WINS PAYNE STAKES Special Cablegram. NEWMARKET, England, May 14.— Codicil, an Epsom Derby candidate, from the stable ot Mrs. Corlett G. Lorney, won the Payne Stakes, over one mile and a half, here today. Apperley, also a Derby eligible, and carrying the colors of J. P. Hornung, was second in the field of eight. J. E. Wideners Pahokee, the only American-owned horse in the race, was unplaced. The winner was 8 to 1 in the betting.
