PANCHO LOPEZ was soon hustled to the front and, racing well, withstood several mild challenges to show the way to the end. NIGHT VINTAGE was close up throughout and outlasted DISCOBOLUS. The latter began slowly from an outer position, then dashed up to the leaders on the outside, but tired. ELIZABETH W. met interference, but was going well at the end. CRYSTAL PRINCE showed early speed. POINT FINAL and KOSTER MAID were in close quarters early. NIFTY showed the most early speed, but, while easily best of the others, was no match for the first two. SHASTA BULLET dropped back after starting first. BACCIOCCO made up ground. PRINCESS IVRE was never far back and, after overtaking NEVADA QUEEN in the stretch, raced gamely thereafter. PRINCESS A. O. raced forwardly and held on well. GALA FLIGHT was badly outrun early. NEVADA QUEEN was slower to begin than usual, but dashed into the lead on the outside in the first quarter and opened up a short lead, but tired badly in the last eighth. MAY PENNANT also tired. FLAG TIME finished fast after being blocked a sixteenth out, went to the outside and wore down MARTIE FLYNN and won going away. The latter, probably best, was blocked when taken to the inside in the early racing, was then forced to be taken back and went to the outside on the stretch turn and, taking the lead when HOT SHOT tired, had little left to resist the winner. SAGE FIRE showed a good performance. HOT SHOT set the pace, but could not last. AMERICAN THUNDER tired badly in the last eighth. STICK AROUND and NUSAKAN showed early speed. flfkAA FIFTH RACETMile. THUNWIN took the lead when DANDY DAN tired, but tired in the last eighth. SAN CLEMENTE, forced wide on the stretch turn, closed gamely. SPUD was far out of it early and, although making up ground in the last quarter, did not threaten. OUR BILLY tired in the stretch. SHASTA LOVER was in close quarters on the stretch turn. WATER PORT, saving ground where possible in the early stages, raced strongly in the stretch and got up to outfinish ALBAZANO in the last stride. The latter, a bad post actor, showed good early speed and, holding on gamely when challenged, barely missed. ENGLEWOOD finished fast in the last quarter. BROWN HILLS also closed gamely next to the rail. FLAGG PORTER rushed up to the leaders on the back stretch, but tired when put to a drive in the stretch.
