SPORTSMANS PARK RACING - -4 Two Meetings to Be Held at Chicagos New Half -Mile Track. Spring Session May 2 to May 21 Fall Dates October 10 to October 31 Stables for Over 400 Horses. . Two meetings will be held at Sportmans Park, Chicagos new half-mile track, built by the National Jockey Club. Racing at this beautiful little plant, situated within a hundred yards of Hawthorne, will start May 2 and continue until May 21, a total of eighteen days. Dates for the fall meeting call for nineteen days of racing, starting October 10 and concluding October 31. Considerable money has been spent on the club house, a three-decker affair, built of concrete and steel and lined in tile with mosaic design. Twelve stables have been completed and are ready for the reception of thoroughbreds. Each stable consists of thirty-eight stalls and two large feed rooms. Magnificent quarters for the stable help have been provided. Significance is attached to the announcement of Edward J. OHare, president and general manager of the National Jockey Club, that racing at Sportsmans Park this spring will be conducted under the rules and regulations of the Illinois Turf Association. In speaking of his racing officials and their instructions to place every possible safeguard around the sport at Sportsmans Park, Mr. OHare said: "Much time was spent in our selection of racing officials in an endeavor to secure the best men available for the positions assigned them. We are complimented on the many nice things said about them, and feel sure that every member of the staff bears a reputation for ability, integrity and fair dealing. They have received positive instructions to see that clean racing prevails." J. J. Graddy of Lexington, is the presiding steward. One of his associates will be Mr. OHare, the other Fred Digby, of New Orleans. Robert S. Shelley will be the racing secretary and handicapper, Thomas Brown the starter, John Henry, paddock judge, Lally Collyer, timer, Sidney Bender, clerk of scales, Patrick Gallagher, assistant racing secretary and William Daly patrol judge.
