DOUBLE FOR BRADLEY , Bar Hunter Wins Feature and Bad News First Race. Nell Kuhlman Surprises and Pays Long Odds in Fourth Tiger . Flowers Earns Purse. NEW ORLEANS, La., March 4. A double "triumph of the popular white and green colors of the stable of Col. E. R. Bradley, featured todays racing under pleasant conditions at the Fair Grounds. The Kentucky sportsmans Bad News opened the afternoon with his maiden success in the introductory race, and Bar Hunter completed the double Victory with a decisive triumph over a small field in the Lone Star Purse, the feature. The veteran, Jimmy Smith, piloted both of he victors, which were saddled by William Hurley. Although he was slow to find his best stride and was outrun during the early stages of the feature, Bar Hunter came through splendidly thereafter and romped home three lengths before R. H. News prumper. Third fell to R. C. Thatchers Gaillardia. Prince Farthing, Defier and Petabit were the only other starters, and the latter was eliminated when she wheeled ks starter Hamilton released the barrier. GAILLARDIA SETS PACE. Gaillardia sped along in an easy lead for jpi half-mile and continued to show the way for an additional quarter as the winner, which Smith took under strong restraint on the second turn, followed in closest pursuit. When shaken up entering the stretch, Bar Hunter soon forged to the front and came on impressively as Frumper outstayed Gaillardia for second. Prince Farthing failed to prove a factor when the real racing came. The race was run over a good and rapidly drying out track and the winner ran the distance in 1:41. It was his second victory of the winter. Warm, dry weather resulted in a big increase in attendance over the previous rainy afternoon. Bad News, E. R. Bradleys home-bred three-year-old son of Bubbling Over and Miss Ronald, was a driving winner over the Southland Stables Tiedemann in the opening race. This brought together a limit field of older maidens under claiming conditions and third fell to Master McGee, which tired after furnishing some contention, yet outstayed Ricciardo, which shared favoritism with the .winner. Quick to get going, the victor, ridden by J. Smith, made every post a winning one and was only seriously threatened in the late stages when the sturdy closing Tiedemann rapidly cut down his lead after heading Master McGee for second place entering the final furlong. Glen Lad, owned by W. Wie-gand, of New Orleans, was badly cut down when in close quarters shortly after the Start. McCOY RIDES WINNER. The second race, given over to the cheaper Older non-winners during the winter, went to the Rainbow Stock Farms veteran Tiger Flowers, on which J. McCoy had the- mount. He came away through the last two of the nine furlongs and won by four lengths from Bobby Powers, which luckily outstayed Mai San by a head. The latter swerved badly during the stretch run and her failure to keep a straight course probably cost her the second money. Ed Reese finished fourth and the eight pothers included Bob Kernan, dismal performing favorite, and the well-backed Outcry. Bob Kernan provided little contention, and Outcry was used up contesting with Bobby Powers for the lead during the opening three-quarters. Justice Logan, which races for the Gor-ham Brothers, took the third, an allowance affair for two-year-olds and in which twelve starters, including a number of previous winners, participated, for his second victory in five starts. Having a four-pound advantage in weights over Miss Careful, he defeated the latter filly easily by a length and one-half and ran the three-eighths in the fast time of :35Vs. Miss Careful only succeeded in defeating Spanish Way by a nose for second and the latter colt had only a head over Miss Bunting, which was in close quarters during the approach of the finish, where Spanish Way raced on the extreme putside. After reaching the straight quarter in the stretch, the winner, ridden by F. Burley, tm Continued on thirteenth page. Outsiders accounted for the honors in the fourth race when Nell Kuhlman, Cousin Judy and Premeditate were the first three to finish. They reached the end in the order named and the victory of Nell Kuhlman marked the outstanding surprise of the day. She rewarded with 8.60 for each S2 straight ticket. Under a poor ride by the inexperienced J. Hlad, the winner raced wide for the last half-mile, during which she gradually improved her position and after coming outside the leaders in the last furlong drew away to win by two and one-half lengths. Cousin Judy outstayed Premeditate and Song Hit, which tired after an extended head and head duel for the lead, by a length. Song Hit, favorite, was beaten only a nose for third place.
