TRAITOR WINS EASILY Defeats Fervid and Silver Lake in Jupiter City Purse. Dedicate Leads Throughout to De feat Bogan at Tropical Park t Helios Repeats. MIAMI, Fla., March 4. Sprinters had their day at Tropical Park this afternoon, and five of the seven races were at distances of less than a mile, with two of them over the five and. a half furlongs distance and two others of seven furlongs. Fields were large and well balanced, bringing several fighting finishes. The Jupiter City Claiming Purse had the feature position, and eleven were attracted. Mrs. A. Carfanos Traitor was the winner, racing in front all the way. Mrs. J. M. Blacks Fervid raced to the place, and Ward and Burtons Silver Lake, one that sold in the field, saved third from Clare-mont. The big disappointment of the running was Joe Edwards Polygamous, which, after being almost left at the post, refused " to extend himself. Then, after the finish, he ran away a mile with Remillard before he was caught. Another delightful day brought out a surprisingly large crowd and there was plenty of interest in the sport and action in the wagering. There was a delay at the post before the field in the feature was dispatched. All except Polygamous went away in .good alignment. Ellice was first to show the way, but she soon surrendered the command to Traitor and once Mills had the son of Run-antell in command he dropped him down on the rail and kept him going at a pace that held his position safe. MILLS STRONG FINISH. Inferno Lad moved up into the contention at the half-mile ground and Ellice was hanging to third place in resolute fashion, but Silver Lake was far back, with Polygamous lengths behind the field and refusing to extend himself. Robertson was steadily working his way up with Fervid as the daughter of Dunlin was racing strongly when the turn into the -short stretch was reached. For an instant it seemed that Fervid would run Traitor down, but Mills had saved something for that stretch challenge and, holding Traitor together cleverly, he was still a length and a quarter to the good as he crossed the line. Fervid had saved the place by a length, while Silver Lake came with a mighty rush to beat Claremont for third. Ellice had stopped badly, while Salisbury, which was sixth at the finish, had suffered some early interference. Ward and Burtons Dedicate ran a greatly improved race in the second to be an easy winner over R. J. Morans Bogan, with Mrs. R. Pollards Princeton saving third from Mrs. J. M. Blacks Spunky. It was a good start, and Nonana took an early lead, but Dedicate was right after -her and had soon taken command. Princeton was following them closely, and this was the order as they approached the stretch turn. There Nonana saved ground on ine inside, but she tired badly and dropped out of contention in the final sixteenth. Dedicate had opened up a safe lead, and Lewis kept him at his task to have him the winner by a length and a half. Spunky was only beaten half a length for third, and the others followed along in strung-out order. IN CLOSE ALIGNMENT. A great finish occurred in the three furlongs dash for juveniles, when David J. Elys Helios, Fred Kahns Ipral and Howard Oots Dry Ridge swept over the finish line in the order named, closely locked and half a dozen lengths before H. Roseachers Min-togee. With little delay at the post, the start was good, and Helios and Ipral at once went out to show the way. Robertson was on the inside with Helios, and in the early racing he was holding Ipral perfectly safe, but after swinging into the short stretch he tired, and as the son of Dozer continued to close on him, Robertson had to go to a hard drive to save the day by a short head. Dry Ridge was always in a forward position, and came with a great rush through the final sixteenth to only lose second place by a nose. The others were always outrun, with Minto-gee best, but she was six lengths back of the fighting trio. Riding with much more energy than he did on the same horse Wednesday, Catrone Continued on twenty-third pagc.J TRAITOR WINS EASILY .Continued from first page. had C. A. Grandes Highest Point winner in the last stride of the third, race, another five and a half furlongs dash. To score he ran down Noajoyce, from the Honeoye Stable, and Rudolph Spreckels Tuskegee was third over Winning Card by a narrow margin. There was a long delay at the post, for which Noajoyce was chiefly to blame, and he was finally placed outside the stalls. The start was a good one, and Noajoyce at once jumped into the lead, with Miss Avondale chasing after him, and Tuskegee showed the most speed of the others. Highest Point was "well back of these in the early racing. Noajoyce had raced Miss Avondale into defeat before the stretch was reached, and he looked a winner -a furlong out, but there was a rush back of him, and Catrone, riding like a demon, brought Highest Point along on the outside to have him drop his nose down in front Noajoyce was second by only half a length over Tuskegee, and he in turn only saved third by a head. War Saint, claimed from the G. D. Wide-ner stable at Hialeah Park, made good in handsome fashion for his new owner when he beat a band of platers in the sixth race. War Saint had to be best to win, for when the start came he was in a jam and sharply cut off. Smith took him in hand and, going down the back stretch, went to the outside. Finishing with a rush after passing the half-mile post, the winner assumed an easy lead on the far turn and for the remainder of the journey raced under restraint. At the-finish he had a lead of a length over Wandering Gold, which came from behind to close with a rush to beat the tiring Lawyer by two lengths for second place. In the early stages Hieover and Donny Johnny raced like a team, but when the real test came both tired.
