STAKE ELIGIBLES WORK OUT Sazerac and Jimmy Moran Gallop One Mile Over Fast Fair Grounds Course. NEW ORLEANS, La., March 9. Although the coldest weather of the winter held training operations to a minimum, two horses prominently engaged, were seen in fine trials over a fast track at the Fair Grounds this morning. They were Sazerac, A. B. Letelliers crack Louisiana Derby candidate, and M. Goldblatts Jimmy Moran, probable favorite for the New Orleans Handicap. The latter fixture is to be run Saturday, and Jimmy Moran had his final preparation, going one mile in 1:44. He was hard held throughout and, according to several excellent judges, is at his best for the Saturday headliner. Sazerac also worked over the mile distance and went the eight furlongs under restraint in 1:44, the half mile in :50 and the three-quarters in 1:16. This son of Westy Hogan was to have been seen under colors here today, but was deprived of a racing opportunity when the race did not fill. Mr. Letellier hopes to give him another race before the Derby test. In the closing day feature Sazerac will oppose Bertjohn, the improving E. R. Bradley hope, which won so easily over Open. Hearth, Walter D. and other three-year-olds Tuesday, Springsteel, Hoops, Crystal Prince, Renaissance, Lucky Tom, Prince Hotspur, Princess Camelia and others. Prince Hotspur, Princess Camelia, Hoops, Springsteel, Renaissance and others of the candidates went through useful training Tuesday morn- ing. Silverdale, Mrs. M. B. Prices good veteran, and among Jimmy Morans rivals for New Orleans Handicap honors, was seen in action in the Francaise Purse, the Wednesday headliner and, barring mishap, will fill his engagement Saturday. R. A. Fairbairns Glastonbury, John Marschs Prince Atheling, Knebelkamp and Morris Spanish Play and others of the aspirants for Saturdays stake laurels, were inactive Wednesday. At the Knebelkamp and Morris barn, trainer C. E. Gross was preparing and packing for the long trip to Agua Caliente with Spanish Play. A car for the crack four-year-old has been ordered, and he will start on the westward jaunt Saturday night. At Agua Caliente he will start in the 0,000 added Agua Caliente Handicap Sunday, March 20.
