, ! : ! 1 1 , 1 1 t AGUA CALIENTE NOTES I 4 s John J. McGraw, manager of the New York Giants and an ardent racing fan, was a visitor Sunday. Marilyn Miller, stage and screen star, and Joe Schenck, well-known film executive, were among those representing Hollywood Sunday. Sunday was the last day to declare out of the Caliente Handicap and it is thought that many horsse were withdrawn, as it costs 00 extra to remain in the field after that date. Hoops, now at New Orleans, was withdrawn this morning. Jockey H. Maddux was suspended for five days for crossing in front of his field with Hermelin in the fifth race Saturday. Jockey Tony Salazar returned to the saddle Sunday after serving a ten-day suspension for rough riding. Norman Count, from the stable of Francis Walter, broke down while being worked Monday morning. The colt but recently returned to the races after a long lay-off. Morroll, from the stable of S. Norris, has been fired and turned out. The irons were applied by Dr. H. E. Davis. The horses which have been racing in the interests of the J. H. Edwards estate, will be sold at public aution in the Agua Caliente paddock on Sunday, March 13. W. S. Cahalan will serve as auctioneer. Altmark, a good three-year-old in the stable of Benny Creech, developed a quarter crack Friday morning and will likely be laid up for the remainder of the season. Jockey Clyde Turk was an arrival from Miami Thursday and swung into action at once. Trainer Bill Finnegan is doing everything possible to get Alexander Pantages ready for the Agua Caliente Handicap. The animal went one mile Thursday morning in 1:44. Cabezo was also on the track for a mile jaunt and traveled the distance in 1:44. Jockey Tony Salazar, who has twice been astride horses at the meeting, which were disqualified after winning, has been suspended for the remainder of the meeting by the stewards. Steeplechase jockey Eddie Ball will leave today for Maryland where he will report- to his employer, J. H. Whitney. Jockey Frankie Mann, who will have the mount on Marine in the Agua Caliente Han-1 dicap, was an arrival from eastern Canada today.
