DICK CHEVELY, never far back and forced to race wide in the final three-eighths, slowly wore down FINGER TIPS in the stretch and, holding on well, withstood SANTANDER. The latter improved his position slowly after going half a mile and, closing gamely, was wearing down the winner. FINGER TIPS, away fast, drew clear before going a quarter, saved much ground on the turn and held on fairly well after being overtaken. ST. JIM, away fast but unable to keep up, lacked room when racing on the inside in the stretch and might have been best. TAT raced wide. PARTICIPATE quit. BOCARATONE, away slowly, closed a gap in the stretch, but was never formidable. LUCKY DRIFT and FIALA showed early speed. ANALYST, in close quarters early, went to the outside when clear and was under light restraint until reaching the final three-eighths, withstood the drive gamely and was up to win in the final strides. PENN, under strong urging for the first quarter, responded mildly when called upon, but was not good enough. PRINCE RENO, shuffled back and probably much the best, worked his way up on the inside and, lacking room near the end, finished well in hand. BAG O GOLD raced wide throughout, but held on well.
