AGUA CALIENTE TO RE-OPEN DECEMBER 25 AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, March 26. When Agua Caliente closes its gates Sunday the Lower California racing plant will remain idle until next Christmas Day, it was announced by president James N. Crofton last night. That in view of the present depression the idea of a summer meeting has been abandoned and that instead of the annual winter season beginning on Thanksgiving Day, as was the case this season, it will not get under way until December 25. Plans are being made to attract the best handicap horses available to Agua Caliente next winter. It is unlikely that the season will interfere with Tanforan, and with the latter track running both fall and spring and the Agua Caliente meeting sandwiched between, the West Coast will have continuous racing for many months. The Agua Caliente Handicap will again feature next winters racing, and there is a possibility that Phar Lap and Ammon Ra, Australias crack thoroughbreds, will both be starters.
