The latter, prominent throughout, responded to punishment and was wearing down the winner. JANE ELLEN, under hard urging all the way, held PATRICK CALLAHAN safe. The latter was unable to improve his position in the stretch. JUDGE DIXON raced evenly. The others were unable to enter contention at any stage. BROOKSIE, starting faster than usual, raced along in the thick of contention and, finishing gamely, wore down ALLENS and outlasted COOTS. The latter, crowded back in the first eighth, regained his stride fand closed fastest of all when taken to the outside in the final three-sixteenths. JUSTINA, saved for three-, eighths, challenged resolutely entering the stretch and foucht it out gamely. ALLENS showed early speed, saved ground, but tired in the last eighth. HARRY HIEOVER, moving up to the leaders with a rush, took command on the stretch turn and, forced to a hard drive in the last eighth, held on gamely. FINNATH, outrun early, went to the outside in the final stages and finished fast. BACKWOODSMAN, slow to get going, finished resolutely. MY BEAUTY tired in the stretch. BOUNDER challenged gamely on the turn, took a short lead, but tired at the finish. BOB BLACKBURN quit. CHATFORD, away in the first flight, followed close to FIRST MISSION, disposed of the pacemaker without rnuch effort midway of the far turn and, holding on resolutely under severe urging, just lasted to withstand IJLUNIU. The latter, saved off the early pace, gained resolutely when called upon and was slowly wearing down the winner. BURNING UP, forwardly placed throughout, responded gamely and held STREET SINGER safe. The latter, away sluggishly, closed a gap in the late stages. MOINE showed flashes of speed. FIRST MISSION fell back fast after being displaced after seven-eighths. THISTLE FYRN tired.
