AURORA PLANS "DAILY DOUBLE" Exposition Park to Introduce Popular Method of Wagering During Coming Meeting "Double" Will Be Conducted on Second and Third Races Daily The "Daily Double" is coming to Chicago. This method of mutuel wagering is a legal-ized parlay and a revival in a somewhat different form of the old combination bets of other days. Exposition Park, Aurora, where the Illinois Turf Associations summer season opens May 2 with an eighteen-day meeting, will introduce the "Double" to the Chicago district, general manager Ed. F. Carruthers announced last night. The double will be conducted on the second and third races each day, with as the minimum wager. The winning tickets, naturally, will be those that name the winners of the two races. The "Double" is a comparatively new form of wagering hereabouts, although the combinations in the old days amounted to the same thing. Fairmount Park found the "Double" a popular form of wagering, while the method has flourished at all winter tracks. It is a peculiar trait of every race player that he believes he can win a parlay. They are not satisfied with picking one winner; they must bunch two or more in one wager. The "Double" will provide a means for them to exhibit their skill or luck in picking two winners at Aurora. Unlike the parlay, as known to most players, the "Double" pay-off does not depend upon what each winner pays. It is not a case of the winnings of the first horse plus the original wager, going back on the second. The final pay-off is governed solely by the amount of money wagered in the "Double" pool and the number of tickets sold on the winning combination. On several occasions during the southern season just closed, no ticket was held on the two horses that won. When a situation like this arises the pool is split into two parts. Those who are holding tickets that contain the number of the winning horse in the first race and those naming the horse that won in the second divide the money. Odds of 500-1 are not uncommon. On numerous occasions during the winter sums as high as ,500 and ,700 were won. These big prices naturally occurred when only one or a few tickets were sold combining the two horses and when those horses were outsiders in form. There is no relation, or connection, between the "Double" pool and the pool for the regular pari-mutuel play on the races involved. The "Double" pool is handled in the same manner as the other mutuel pools with the club taking off the percentage permitted by law. "On my swing around the winter circuit, I found the "Daily Double" an extremely popular method of wagering," said Mr. Carruthers. "Its a dream come true for those Continued on sixteenth page. "This period is the time between the two races when the first winner is in and those - who have that horse named are waiting for r the next race to be decided. I am firmly j convinced it will take hold here in Chicago; ; thats why Aurora will introduce it locally. . We have engaged an expert crew of "Double" men to handle this department for us, :, and we will have eight windows available 2 for those who think they can put over a i parlay."
