WASHINGTON PARK SHIPMENTS Special From Maryland Bearing Sixty-Five Horses Expected to Arrive Monday — Evening in Derby. A telegram received by Thomas Young, track superintendent of Washington Park, announced that on Monday a special shipment from Maryland would arrive. This consignment will include sixty-five thoroughbreds which will be campaigned throughout the thirty-day meeting, beginning Monday, May 23. R. F. Carman, trainer for the Nevada Stock Farm, will have twenty-five horses. Charles Casey is bringing the Le Mar Stock " Farm band, numbering twenty-five. This shipment will be the largest received so far on a single day. The first shipment included the Audley Farm band, thirty-five, followed later by twenty which will be campaigned in the colors of the Keeneland Stud. Before the end of next week Washington Park will be pressed for space. Lincoln Fields will get the overflow. General manager C. W. Hay has 2,000 stalls listed. All will be taken, he states. His fear is that even a greater number of horses will be shipped to his track. Washington Park has 1,200 stalls. It is Hays plan to provide special facilities for eligi- bles in the American Derby, to be run Saturday, June 18, consequently he will hold ► many in reserve for contenders in that race. Advices received from George D. Widener indicate that Evening, his fast filly, will be an early arrival at Washington Park for American Derby training. Winner of the Florida Derby and triumphant since then in sensational time, it is certain, in the belief of general manager Hay, that this daughter of St. James will be a dangerous Derby factor. Track superintendent Young states that Washington Park course is in fine condition. His aides are working on the track. The plant in its entirety is practically ready for the opening ceremonies.
