GALLANT KNIGHT AND MATE Each Assigned 123 Pounds, Top Weight, for Francis S. Peabody Memorial to Be Run Saturday. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 21. Gallant Knight, a certain starter, and Mate, which may reach the Chicago area in time to contest the race, drew top weight of 123 pounds each, for the 0,000 added Francis S. Pea-body Memorial Handicap, the big mile and one-quarter fixture, to be renewed at Washington Park Saturday. Next to the Audley Farm and A. C. Bostwick stars, the handi-capper placed A. Bartelsteins Polydorus, with 120 pounds, andJKnebelkamp and Morris Spanish Play was admitted with 118 pounds. The Northway Stables Plucky Play; B. Creechs Dr. Freeland, and Sidney Grant, also owned by Mr. Bartelstein are probable starters asked to carry 115 pounds over the long testing route and T. E. Muellers Pitts-burgher and L. M. Seversons Paul Bun-yan are fit and ready candidates in the 111 pounds class. Others from which the field for the important and valuable race will come together with assigned imposts include: Lady Broadcast, 109; Prince Atheling, 109; Burning Up, 109; Karl Eitel, 108; Yonkel, 107; Osculator, 107; Pompeius, 107; Sunmelus, 106 and Canfli, 102. Plucky Play was seen in his final distance trial for the race when trainer E. L. Fitzgerald sent him the Peabody Memorial distance on a fast track in 2:08 handily, at Washington Park this morning. He ran the half-mile in :48, three-quarters in 1:14, mile in 1:40 and one mile and an eighth in 1:54. Last year Plucky Play was at the very top among the western handicap horses and, from the manner in which he has trained for Saturdays engagement, there is every promise that he will again star. With so many of the foremost handicap luminaries going to the post, the Peabody Memorial offers one of the most attractive features of the season.
