HONOR GOVERNOR SATURDAY Dade Park Staging Celebration in Honor of Kentucky Executive Handicap Main Event. . , HENDERSON, Ky., Aug. 17 Next Saturday will be Governors Day at Dade Park, when the Governors Handicap, over six furlongs, for a purse of ,500, will be run. Governor Ruby Laffoon of Kentucky has notified James C. Ellis, president of the Dade Park Jockey Club, that he will be in attendance at the running of the handicap and will present the trophy to the owner of the. winning horse. J. J. Graddy and Brownell Berryman, in charge of the racing, said today they expected nine thoroughbreds to go to the post in the Governors Handicap Saturday. They are Manta, Gold Step, Canron, Ridgeview, Cold Check, Bay Angon, Betty Derr, Rusty and Playtime. The attendance at Dade Park this year is larger than ever before in the nine years of racing. Crowds are in attendance each day from Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee. Greater bridge facilities and improved highways have made access to Dade Park an easy matter. The horses running at the summer meeting are of the highest class, and some of the crack jockeys of the country are riding here. The meeting will continue through September .10.
