1 LATONIA TURF NOTES Resident manager Russell Sweeney reports numerous inquiries about the Latonia Championship Stakes and with Gusto and other of the leading thj ee-year-olds in training accepting for the race, looks for it to attract the usual large number of out-of-town devotees. E. B. Carpenter, who has engaged D. Dickson, an apprentice, for the meeting, has Gay Bird, Tony Joe, St. Jim and Chip here. Superintendent Charles Nolte has set aside stalls for the W. R. Coe, C. V. Whitney, Audley Farm and other stakes candidates expected from the East. A number of the larger eastern stables will be represented in the Championship Stakes, Jockey Club Stakes and Breeders Futurity. Fourth money will be paid in all races run during the meeting. William Hamilton, starter at all tracks in Kentucky, was among the week end arrivals. Since the close of Dade Park several weeks ago he enjoyed a merited rest at his home in Hot Springs, Ark. C. W. Hay, master of Scotland Farm, will stop off for the opening on his way home, from Chicago. Among the larger stables unloaded this morning was the division of the E. R. Bradley establishment that William Hurley campaigned with success at Lincoln Fields and Hawthorne. It comprised seventeen head, including Ballygran, Bar Hunter, Kroad Meadows, Bubbler, Bun D., Bubbler and others. The veteran James Smith is on hand to do the riding. Col. Bradley is expected from the East in time to witness possibly the final two weeks of racing here. Jockey Alcee Richard is here with the W. F. Axton stable, in charge of Wayne Lewis, and should ride his share of winners. It is Richards first whirl at Latonia riding. C. H. Ferguson got in with Major Ben, Threat, Meteoric, Bettina H. and Fastidious, owned by A. L. Ferguson, and J. H. Gaines Fireflash. The useful Star Brook, Polygeny and Helen Bab, along with Sweeping Queen, owned by L. C. Young and trained by James McGee, shipped from Lincoln Fields in good style. Daniel E. OSullivan, resident manager of Churchill Downs, will head a large party of enthusiasts coming up from Louisville for the opening here Wednesday. The Jewell Brothers good juvenile Friend Charley, beaten for the first time in nine starts when he gave way to Flying Cadet and Ballygran at Lincoln Fields Saturday, will attempt to return to winning ways here. The Jewell Brothers also brought in Mrs. Foster and All Forlorn. J. W. Parrishs Isaiah, Depression, New Baby and Popo, L. Lynes Little Connelly, Lair and Parrishs Oh Dave and J. M. Goodes Oziti and Captain Logan got in in good shape and in charge of J. G. Goode from Lincoln Fields. B. B. Williams, with C. W. Hays Scotland Beauty, T. J. Johnsons High Explosive, C. C. Van Meters Chatwink and several others will be among the late arrivals from Chicago. .
