KHORASAN AN EASY WINNER Long Branch Entertains Record Crowd on Holiday Devout Is Second in Feature Handicap. TORONTO, Ont., Oct. 10 Probably the greatest crowd that ever visited Long Branch was on hand Thanksgiving Day to witness the easy score of Khorasan, which races for Mrs. J. Badame, in the feature offering. This was a one mile and one-sixteenth race, bearing the title of the Thanksgiving Handicap, with a purse of ,500. The Hastings Stables Devout, which had hitherto been confined to sprinting races, was second, and Magyar carried the blue and yellow silks of Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin into third place. From a good start Broadway Lights and the winner displayed the most early speed, with Broadway Lights bothering the Badame colt as he bore in straightening out for the run through the back stretch. When Khorasan met this mishap Townrow wisely took him in hand and steadied him along within striking distance of the leaders. Devout had moved into second place and was right at Broadway Lights throatlatch. Midway around the turn the pacemaker had begun to shorten strides and the Hastings Stable filly drew clear. It was then that Khorasan was asked for his best and quickly took command and drew away as if much the best. Devout was hanging on courageously and lasted long enough to stall off the stretch challenge of Magyar, although bearing out, taking the second split of the purse by a nose from the Iselin-owned colt. Khorasan negotiated the the one mile and a sixteenth in 1:45. For the first time since the meeting opened a fast track prevailed.
