OPENING AT DUFFERIN PARK Final Canadian Meeting of Year Begins Today at Torontos Popular Half-Mile Track. TORONTO, Ont., Oct. 14 The last seven days racing of the Canadian season gets under way Saturday with the opening of Dufferin Park. Many improvements have been made in the ladies mutuel pavilion, being extended further south under the grandstand. One improvement embraces twelve new wickets, which will greatly expedite the wants of those speculatively inclined. The horse colony was greatly increased this morning by the arrival of several van loads of thoroughbreds from Woodbine. Every stall at Dufferin Park has an equine occupant and many have been forced to find quarters on the outside of the track. While the original opening day feature failed to fill, the card that racing secretary Wash Norvell has arranged is quite up to the standard of the racing that has previously taken place at the recently closed mile courses. There is an over-abundance of horses ready to race. Some idea of this may be gleaned from the entries, especially the third race. No less than sixty-four were excluded out of the event, while in the opening dash twenty were excluded and in the second, eighteen failed to get in. The daily double style of wagering will be introduced to Dufferin Park for the first time and, like the previous Long Branch meeting, operated by A. M. Orpen, will be on the second and third events. Post time for the first race will be 1:45 p. m. daily.
