BELLIZZI STAR AT EMPIRE Apprentice Adds to His Laurels in Riding Frigate Bird to Victory. Scores Impressively in Main Race of Mondays Program Attendance Affected by Disagreeable Weather. YONKERS, N. Y., Oct. 24. Dominick Bel-lizzi, the apprentice who has been riding well at this meeting, added to his laurels today when he piloted Damon Runyons Frigate Bird to a driving victory in the fourth race of the day, a dash over one mile and seventy yards for the better grade of platers. The Runyon plater led home M. Fiandolos Wise Advocate, while J. H. Louchheims Al Neiman was third. This victory brought Bellizzis riding score to thirty-eight winners. He rode his first winner at Kansas City last spring. Contrary to the popular belief Bellizzi hails from Albany and is 20 years of age. A return to cloudy, chilly weather prevailed and as a result the attendance suffered. The falling off from the Saturday throng was a noticeable one, but for a Monday it was a generous outpouring. The track was fast and, despite the downfall of popular choices, the racing was of a spirited nature. Little time was lost at the barrier in the fourth and, from a good start, Rubio moved into command at once. Tetrarchal, Al Neiman and Papyrograph were well bunched, while Jamison and Little Nap brought up the rear. There was no change in the running positions until the far turn was reached, where Wise Advocate was sent up on the outside by Pete Walls and Bellizzi came through on the inside with Frigate Bird. Tetrarchal and Papyrograph faltered when placed under pressure and, turning for home, Al Neiman was bumped and knocked off his stride. In a hard duel to the wire Frigate Bird responded gamely and proved best, winning by a neck. Wise Advocate had a wide margin over Al Neiman, which came again at the end to outlast Little Nap for the third portion of the purse. Flag View, ridden by L. Bernius, wore down Bank Shot in the final strides to earn a nose victory in the first event. Walter H. was a driving third. Bank Shot, ridden by Bellizzi, moved into command nearing the far turn. To assume command he bothered Rye and Capt. Jerry, forcing them back. Flag View, which also recovered quickly from early interference, improved his position steadily on the Continued on twenty-first page. BELLIZZI STAR AT EMPIRE Continued from first page, inside. Turning for home, Bank Shot went wide, and then Bernius drove his mount through on the rail. Walter H. was steered to the outside of the leaders, while Capt. Jerry came again on the inside. In a hard drive" through the final furlong the son of American Flag wore down Bank Shot and proved best in the last few strides. Walter H. was a length back but a good third over Capt. Jerry. Sweet Bud, ridden by Frank Coltiletti, stood a stretch drive gamely to account for the second race. Yancey was the one to race to the place, while Dont Blush was third. The winner was rated along under steady restraint, assumed command when ready at the far turn, and through the stretch withstood determined opposition from Yancey, and at the finish had a length advantage. The latter moved up with .a rush when called upon, but hung at the finish, while" Dont Blush" was used up considerably racing Mareve arid Chaumont . into early defeat. The start-was a poor one, and Call Play and Shan Tung were as good as left. Dustemoff. was a driving winner o-.the third race. He led home We Dun It, while Chlo Boy was in third place. The start was a good one and Fashion Show stepped into command at once. Kai-Finn, Polyfon, Purple Sage and Charlie .were close up, with thetothers bunched, behind them.- There was no change in the positions to 4he. stretch turn, where the leaders began to falter, and then Dustemoff moved into command. We Dun It, from a slo,w beginning, worked his way up on the outside and closed fast, but just failed to weaf down the leader. Chlo Boy, which had raced on the outside of the leaders .all the. way, had no mishaps and was a driving thirds . j
