1 LAUREL PARK TURF NOTES s . : $ There are forty-two horses on the schooling list with the adding of Town Square, Catherine Stone, Feliciana, Flora Canter and Last Bid. Dr. J. Fred Adams of Catonsville, Md., will make a bid for the 1933 Maryland Futurity at this course with sons of Man o War, Sun Briar and a trio sired by J. Fred A. He also has two fillies by Traumer that he will nominate for the third running of this stake. Norman Church, owner of Plucky Play and Gallant Sir, in addition to several other smart performers, was an arrival from California to inspect his racers that are in charge of E. L. Fitzgerald and to witness the performance of Gallant Sir in the Maryland Handicap. C. N. Mooney, who has several racers quartered at Laurel in charge of Sam Hes-seltine, journeyed from Canada. Jockey T. Fowler was suspended for five days for rough riding away from the gate in the seventh race Friday. Saturdays crowd exceeded that of last Saturday, when more than 20,000 saw Jack High establish a new mile track record of 1:37. Jack Odom was the latest New Yorker to appear on the scene. Steeplechase jockeys Eddie Ball and Frankie Slate, of Baltimore, returned from Montpelier, Va., where they rode winners Saturday. Ball was astride Gold Cup n., while Slate handled Giant Stride. Trainer Bill Mulholland shipped the horses of F. A. Griffith, of Rochester, N. Y., into Pimlico from Aqueduct, N. Y. One can get an idea of Saturdays crowd by the fact that 13,250 programs were sold. A record turnout is looked for this week-end when the 5,000 Washington and ,000 Spalding Lowe Jenkins Handicap will be offered. Steeplechase jockey G. W. Walker arrived from New York Monday morning. He lost little time getting into action. Horsemen and especially the race riders are of the opinion that mile races should be abolished here or the start of such races moved back to the mile and one-sixteenth post. They claim there is scant chance to escape jams in the short run to the first turn when starts are made at the mile mark. Horsemen writing friends here are of the opinion that the bill legalizing pari-mutuel wagering in California will not pass due to its containing a. clause that would also tax amateur athetic contests. Jack Healy, who handles a division of the C. V. Whitney stable; Bill Brennan, trainer of the Greentree Stable, and Hal Price Head-ley have made arrangements to ship some of their charges from here Wednesday to Latonia. W. Z. Martin wired from Cincinnati that he was shipping Sun Grost a two-year-old gelded son of Sun Flag and Grosvenor Girl on for his engagements here. Edward J. Brennan, of Baltimore, has been appointed to handle the racing on November 15 at Harvey Ledouxs estate in Harford County. Four races will be run. Jockey E. Steffen cancelled his mounts for Monday, due to eye trouble. It may be necessary to operate on the injured optic.
