FRED THACKRAY QUITS JUMPERS Special Correspondence. LONDON, England. Fred Thackeray, the English amateur rider, who was seriously injured and unconscious for twenty-one days as a result of a fall from Mrs; 2d, A, Gem-; mells Gregalach, in the Grand National, attended the recent Newbury meeting. It was his first visit to a race course since his accident at Liverpool last March. In conversation with a press representative, the amateur horseman, said, "I have decided neVec to ride in races through the field or over hurdles again, but I may take an occasional mount in flat open to amateur riders." Thackeray, acknowledged Englands premier, amateur horseman at the time of his unfortunate accident, rode ninety-six winners over the minor and major obstacles and twelve. on the flat during his short career
