PIMLICO OPENING MONDAY First Day Given Over to Charity Valuable Prizes Offered by the Maryland Jockey Club. PIMLICO, Md., Oct. 29. Monday the Maryland racing scene changes to Pimlico, the Baltimore course of the Maryland Jockey Club. This first day of- sport is a charity day, with the regular meeting of the club beginning Tuesday. These charity days, since they have been inaugurated in Maryland, have made a big contribution to charity when it is shown that a total of 19,035.54 has been turned over since they were established. Of this amount the contribution from Pimlico was 2,521.37 last year. The Maryland Jockey Club is the oldest in the state and one of the oldest in the United States. Pimlico has been the scene of many of the greatest races in history and the opening of that season, both spring and fall, is of tremendous turf importance. For the coming meeting the big prizes that are down for decision are the Pimlico Futurity of a mile and one-sixteenth, for juveniles, to which 0,000 is added; the Riggs Handicap, of a mile and a half, for three-year-olds and upwards, with 0,000 added; Bowie Handicap, of a mile and a half, for three-year-olds, with ,000 added; the Walden Handicap, of a mile and a sixteenth, for two-year-olds, and the Master of Fox Hounds Steeplechase, for hunters, with ,500 added. In addition to these there are the various graded handicaps and various other specials of importance. For the Charity Day of sport an excellent program has been prepared by racing secretary Frank J. Bryan and with the promise of fair weather and a fast track, there is every reason to expect that there will come another generous donation for the benefit of the unemployed.
