MAJOR GENERAL, hard urged going to the first turn, came over and crowded GRAND ACRE and FAIR BILL midway of the turn, then took an easy lead, but had to be hard urged to hold the latter. FAIR BILL, pinched back entering the back stretch, disposed of GRAND ACRE and closed gamely in the final drive. TOWN SQUARE worked her way up. but could not threaten the first two. FAIR JUDGE came through on the inside on the stretch turn and closed gamely. CANTERWOOD was never a factor. GRAND ACRE tired. Overweight — Kaffa, 1 pound. Q-g O ATT SECOND RACE— 4 1-2 Furlongs. CHATTERDOO, outpaced for three-eighths after starting fast and kept on the inside of IN CLOVER, responded gamely and, taking command in the last eighth, just outlasted PEEDEEQUE. The latter circled the others and closed fast. IN CLOVER tired suddenly in the final eighth after setting the early pace. THIS PLAY was moving up gamely when impeded by INSPECTION in the stretch. BROWN RULER was never a factor. PROOF POSITIVE overtook the early pacemaker after a mile and tired. MUSKOGEE was held safe. WAR MIST tired in the early stages. ANNIMESSIC, under restraint, but moving into the lead without effort when reaching the back stretchy responded strongly when challenged and outlasted MODERN TIMES during the final drive. The latter, taken in hand after going to the first turn in front, moved up stoutly when placed to punishment and held on well. WARD-IN-CHANCERY made a determined bid when straightened into the main stretch, but hung in the final issue. DUNFERN was in close quarters when moving up on the inside leaving the back stretch. He held on well. WORTHINGTON began dropping back after five furlongs. He can do a lot better than this effort shows. PUBLICAN was overmatched. Scratched— 71056 Red Russia, 114.
