STINGER, saved back of the pace, responded when called upon, tried to savage STAR BROOK before heading him and, taking the lead, tired, but lasted. STAR BROOK took an easy lead after going a quarter, was steadied along to the stretch, and held on gamely, but was not good enough. JOHNNY SHAW, beginning slov.lv and allowed to remain out of it, was slow to respond when punished, but came up fast in the final eighth. LE MINISTRE had no mishaps. DUG IN was always far back.
