I CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES ] 4 s A. E. Van Ree plans to ship his string from here to Riverside Park. He may acquire Bunting Lad before shipping. A number of owners have forwarded nominations for the Latonia stakes to the Latonia Jockey Club at Covington and judging from interest in the features, the usual number of leading western stables will be there for the summer meeting. The seven stakes, all to be run during the summer season and closing June 1, are the Latonia Derby. Clipsetta Stakes, Cincinnati Trophy, Latonia Oaks, Quick Step Handicap, Independence Handicap and Enquirer Handicap. Jockey C. Landolt had a close escape from injury in an automobile accident on the Dixie Highway near here last night. Several occupants of the two cars which collided head-on were injured. Landolt, driver of one of the cars, was charged with assault and battery. Gettin Even, Balderdash, Prince Dunroyal and Prince Sulieman, owned by P. H. Krick and Son, of Chicago, will be shipped to Washington Park Saturday night. W. L. Hoag is the trainer. Trainer Bryant Ott does not intend to transfer the French Lick Springs Stable to Chicago before Tuesday or Wednesday. He has selected Playdale, Through Omond, Safe and Sound, The Fawcett, Charlie Bruce, Wind Song, Blue Queen, Air Ace, Buck Sumner and Taggart for the Chicago campaign. J. J. Flanigan sent two, R. W. Pearce, nine, and L. Niles, two, in a car that left the Downs siding for Bainbridge Park this morning. At Bainbridge Park Flanigan will take over four, which Walter Burke has been training for him. Departure of the Southland Stable for Lincoln Fields has been moved back until Wednesday, at which time trainer John Daniels hopes to have several ailing horses in condition to make the trip. With Spicson and others still coughing, trainer J. H. Skirvin will keep the L. M. Sev-erson horses here for at least two or three days and may not get away for Washington Park for a week. Spicson was to have started in the Illinois Derby Saturday. The C. V. Whitney-M. Goldblatt stable also goes to Washington Park, for which meeting the Whitney division will include Leaflet, Tendril, Occult, Legality, Villify, Enigmatic, Illusory, Angkor, Cresta Run, Gyro, Simon, Contraband, Slapstick, Pantaloons, Haban-ero, Blow Fly, Smear, Chimney Sweep, Skirl and Magnifico, while Goldblatt will be represented by Wotan, Gilbert Elston, Jimmy Moran, K. Russell and Town Limit. Fred Burton, of Latonia, and Miss Bessie L. Dameron, of Cincinnati, will be joined in wedlock here Saturday morning. The ceremony will be performed at the home of Mr. Burtons sister. Burton is a member of the secretarial staffs at Churchill Downs, Latonia, and other tracks. The stable Howard Wells is shipping to Washington Park will include Catherine Fox, Elizabeth Fox, Edith A., Mt. Washington, Masked Prince, Hydsar, Slash, Shaker Lady, Secret Tryst, Third Alarm, Prince Drake, Tela, Miss Kid, Fayette Prince, Resisting, Marcella H., Orlatta and Lady of Grace. Wells has eight or ten others in training at Lexington and several of these will be added to the Chicago stable within a short time. Entries for Mondays Washington Park program will be accepted at both Washington Park and Sportsmans Park. L. C. Boganschutz, placing judge and entry clerk at the Homewood track left today for Chicago. Beginning Monday, Francis Dunne will accept Washington Park entries at Lincoln Fields. Presiding steward Charles F. Price left yesterday for Chicago. He next serves at Washington Park, where he will have C. Bruce Head and Robert M. Sweitzer as associates. William H. Shelley, Washington Park racing secretary, got away for Chicago tonight and will open his office at the Homewood track Friday. Trainer Lou Cahn has the horses of Albert Sabath, Chicago sportsman, ready for the comparatively short trip from here to Washington Park. The stable will open the Chicago campaign with Olive Sabath, Flying, Hopulikit, Norman D., Dan Sabath, Dr. Parker, Bugs Leary, Fannie Brice, First Vote, Heiress, Colonel Sam and others. Lou Ungar and H. J. Weisbaum, Cincinnati patrons, plan to race Impish, Beau Tod, Worthy Polly and Beau Dis through the Washington Park and Lincoln Fields meetings. Following the close of the latter track the quartet will return to Kentucky for the Latonia summer season. Governor Ruby Laffoon, of Kentucky, was a visitor for the sport. He was accompanied by Mrs. Laffoon and a party of friends and witnessed the racing from the Governors clubhouse box. ♦
