TORONTO, Ont., May 27 Shady Well, for the second consecutive year, triumphed in the running of the William Hendrie Memorial Handicap. The stake, having its twenty-third renewal, was contested over the one mile and a sixteenth distance for a prize of ,000 added. The Seagram Stable miss, which was coupled with King OConnor, reached the end of the journey in 1:47 and a half length to the good of Spey Crest, bearing the scarlet and white cap of W. H. Wright, mining magnate of Barrie, Ont. Senator D. Raymonds Crofter was .third. The Toronto Cup, which at one time attracted the best thoroughbreds in America, brought together the small field of four for the forty-second running. The event, run over the nine furlongs distance, had an added value of ,000. Broadway Lights, hard-running son of Broadway Jones and Lotus, which races for Tommy McCarthy and which has had a steady campaign both winter and summer, raced to the front. The recent winner Dis Dat, which performs in the interest of T. Donley, raced into second place and Mrs. C. Oliver Iselins Magyar led home J. E. Smallmans Deedie for third.
