TOP EIGHT GOES LAME j I -OUT OF MATCH RACE -- - - ----4 NEW- YORK, N. T., May 27. Top Flight, queenly daughter of Dis Done Flyatit, pulled up lame this morning following a mile trial at Belmont Park and will not start in the proposed match race against Tred Avon on Tuesday. This statement was made by chief trainer Tom Healey in the paddock before the running of the first race. "There is no use saying anything to the contrary. The mare went lame turning for home and will not race on Tuesday. That is final. The injury to the mare was a severe blow to owner Whitney and myself," concluded the veteran trainer. Top Flight was worked with The Darb and the pair covered the first furlong in :11, quarter in :23, three-eighths in :34, half mile in :47 and three-quarters in 1:13. There was a slowing up from then on and the seven furlongs were timed in 1:25 and the mile in 1:41. Those that watched the work were disappointed in the last part of the journey. Top Flight did not show the signs of lameness until on her way back to the stable, where she faltered, and then the reason for her slowing up was discovered. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 27. Due to the injury suffered by Top Flight, the match race between C. V. Whitneys Top Flight and Sylvester W. Labrots Tred Avon scheduled for Decoration Day has been declared off. The two fillies were to race one and one-sixteenth miles at scale weight to settle the supremacy between them.
