RUNNING WATER, suddenly improved, began slowly and raced wide throughout, but improved his position gradually and was ridden out briskly. COG-AIR, under restraint for half a mile, responded well and held on gamely under strong riding. UNCLE HENRY bore over sharply soon after the start, showed speed, but tired badly in the final eighth. HAPPY FELLOW closed a gap on the inside in the stretch. GETTIN EVEN dropped out of it at once and was never dangerous. THUNDERTONE quit. UNCLE MATT began fast, was forced back when UNCLE HENRY bore out and did not recover. ALMA S. met interference soon after the start and quit badly after three-eiehths. ESPINACA, away fast but unable to keep up, closed with a rush. SANDWRACK, slow to start, closed strongly. FLAG BEARER showed good speed, saved ground and tired badly in the last eighth. MARTIE FLYNN raced wide most of the way, but moved up in the stretch. SMEAR tired. KNIGHT COMMANDER was in contention when he broke down badly. The latter dropped back when racing wide into the stretch, but responded well and was wearing down the winner. GILBERT ELSTON, a strong factor throughout, held on gamely. IMPEL was under strong ursine; while forcing the early pace and tired in the final eighth. COUNT RAE bore out badly and tool: CLOSING EVENT out with him on the stretch turn. GULLY JUMPER raced wide for the better footing and, close up throughout, tired after a mile. DR. PARRISH bore in badly all the wav and tired in the final eighth.
