E R BRADLEY TO RELY ON BAZAAR TO WIN DERBY Blue Again Is Withdrawn Leaving the Filly as His Only Starter Final Workout of Cavalcade Mile and a Quarter Quarterin in 210 35 Breezing Final Quarter in 24 25 Attracts Much Attention LOUISVILLE Ky May 3 The withdrawal of Blue Again leaving the filly Bazaar to go it alone under Col Edward R Bradleys white and green colors four times suc ¬ cessful in the race and definite inclusion of Mrs I Dodge Sloanes Florida Derby winner Time Clock in the starting field were todays outstanding developments in connection with the sixtieth annual Kentucky Derby to be run at the historic Churchill Downs here Saturday Announcement that Time Clock would face the starter was made by Robert A Smith trainerinchief of Mrs Sloanes Brookmeade Stable after he had worked both Cavalcade the Derby favorite and his winterraced stablemate the Derby distance of one mile and a quarter early today About the same time Colonel Bradley made known AgainI his decision not to start Blue Again I doubt if he is good enough to have any ¬ thing like a chance in such a race as Sat ¬ urdays Derby promises to be said Colonel Bradley superiorSir Bazaar is vastly his superior Sir Thomas A B Gordons entry and the Medina Breeding Farms Bender First a doubtful starter unless the track is muddy or heavy also worked during the morning the former clicking off five furlongs in 101 while Bender First went a mile in 143 Neither colt was extended extendedNaturally Naturally the filial workout of the fa ¬ vorite Cavalcade his only one on the Derby track and lirst since his recordsmashing performance in the Chesapeake Stakes at Havre de Grace Saturday last was of wide interest Arriving here hard as a rock and at the very peak of his form his final more serious preparation was like play With Mack Garner his regular and Derby pilot in the saddle the son of Lancegaye breezed the mile and a quarter in 210 Without a great deal of encouragement he covered the final quarter of a mile in 24 the time for the first mile being 146 and this greatly impressed horsemen who watched and timed the colt Starting coltStarting at the quarter post he turned the opening quarter in 25 and the half mile in 51 ambling on to the end of three quarters in 119 After the first three Contimied on tenth page E R BRADLEY TO RELY ON BAZAAR TO WIN DERBY Continued from first page sixteenths during which Garner permitted him to get on his stride before taking hold of him he was swinging against his riders pull until in the last quarter where he was called upon to give a little more effort effortAlso Also worked by Garner Time Clock ne ¬ gotiated the long distance in 209 He was never out of hand moving over the quarter in 25 and after getting half a mile in 51 went a rather jerky third quarter com ¬ pleting the six furlongs in 118 Time for the mile was 143 and with trainer Smith waving him on Garner vigorously shook up the son of On Watch after he had straight ¬ ened up for the last quarter through the main stretch stretchTheyre Theyre ready said Smith after the two invaders had worked With two hard races last week I believe the comparatively easy trials this morning were all that were needed to fit them for their best bestWith With the safe arrival late this afternoon of Mrs Payne Whitneys Spy Hill all of the thirteen almost certain to start also the five comprising the doubtful starters class are on the ground Spy Hill a rugged son of Spion Kop and Marvella H came through the fast trip from Belmont Park in fine fashion fashionLed Led by the western favorite Mata Hari Charles T Fishers superlative daughter of Peter Hastings eight of the positive honor seekers galloped on the dry and velvety Downs course this morning and all were back in their stalls and put away for the day before Cavalcade and Time Clock ap ¬ peared on the scene In addition to Mata Hari which trainer Clyde Van Dusen had under saddle at 440 a m the group in ¬ cluded Bazaar Discovery Agrarian Singing Wood Speedmore Peace Chance and Ris kulus kulusAside Aside from short blowouts tomorrow for all candidates save those worked today the long rigorous training grind is at an end The final speed spins of the several sur ¬ vivors of the arduous training siege whose preparations lack only that final touch will take place soon after daybreak tomorrow following which all of the aspirants will rest awaiting the call to the barrier for the gruel ¬ ling mile and a quarter of Saturdays race raceWith With the possible exception of Alex B Gordon owner and trainer of Sir Thomas trainers of all of the candidates are satisfied that their respective horses are in the best possible condition for the big race Although Sir Thomas again worked smartly this morning and Gordon has little to say about his chances the onetime winter book favor ¬ ite so rudely jarred his admirers by his re ¬ fusal to extend himself in Tuesdays Prepa ¬ ration Purse won by Peace Chance in track record time that the opinion that he may have cracked under the strain of the se ¬ vere preparation prevails prevailsThat That the race is probably the most open since 1929 Clyde Van Dusens year is indi ¬ cated by not only the confidence in the camps of a majority of the candidates but also the difference in opinion as to the probable outcome In addition to the Brook meade combination of Cavalcade and Time Clock and the queenly Mata Hari choices for the race Bazaar Discovery Peace Chance Agrarian and Spy Hill have large followings and while odds against the latter five are expected to be considerably larger than the possible returns on the Brookmeade pair and Mata Hari they will carry the hopes of many a patron in the near record crowd they will entertain entertainMuggy Muggy weather with an oppressive hu ¬ midity and partfally ovrcast skies today lifted the hopes of those interested in the several hopefuls whose chances would be enhanced by mud or heavy footing Rain tonight however would improve rather than dull the track which dries out rapidly and with favorable drying weather following showers tonight the racing strip would be lightning fast by Saturday afternoon
