PLATERS RACE AT JAMAICA Entire New York Program Given Over to Cheaper Horses Bain Changes Track Coiiditipns and Causes Withdrawals Aileen C Accounts for Headline Contest NEW YORK TNT Y May 3 With a pro ¬ gram devoid of a feature ajid made up to suit the cheap platers it was a sixTfurlongs dash that occupied the usual feature posi ¬ tion at Jamaica today Conditions were par ¬ ticularly disagreeable for the sport and rain fell most of the afternoon jnarked by fre ¬ quent heavy downpours that dwindled to a drizzle This resulted in changed track con ¬ ditions and the sloppy going brought about several withdrawals There was a natural falling off in attendance attendanceThe The fourth race brought out nine cheap ones to race six furlongs and Miss A Pen dergasts Aileen C seemed to be better suited in the going than the others and she won by a big margin Idle Stefan fin ¬ ished second for the B B Stable and at his heels the Marylandbred Salisbury just got up to take third money from Nose In As in most of the races of the day the winner led from end to end endStout Stout got Aileen C off fast and she splashed her way into a lead of a couple of lengths in the first furlong Transen for a time went after her but sh was soon doing her best to hold second place from Idle Stefan which moved up on the outside leaving the back stretch Quorum still farther out from the rail was in fourth place while Salisbury after being off rapid ¬ ly was holding a position on the rail but unable to keep step with the pace paceBefore Before the stretch was reached Idle Stefan had headed Transen but he was under a drive in a fruitless effort to catch Aileen C and it was apparent it was not to be accomplished The filly by this time had all the others soundly beaten and she drew away again in the last furlong until her winning margin was six lengths Idle Stefan stuck to second place resolutely while Salisbury was only third by reason of slip ¬ ping through on the inside while Nose In was compelled to take a wide cpurse cpurseNandi Nandi the smart twoyearold daughter of Stimulus and Golden Feast which races for H C Phipps proved herself a smart sort of a mud runner when she splashed her way to an easy victory in the opening dash It was a five furlongs dash confined to the maiden fillies and after she found her way into an early lead there was no time she was threatened threatenedNever Never Change from the Greentree Sta ¬ ble raced to second place with Strange Times from the Brookmeade Stable beat ¬ ing Ann ORuley a stablemate of the win ¬ ner for the third award awardJohnny Johnny Gilbert made his riding score two in a row when he brought G C Winfreys Miss Firefly home an easy winner over the cheap juveniles that raced in the second Like Nandi in the opening race this daugh ¬ ter of Meridian bred to run in the mud found the going to her liking and made a show of her opponents C V Whitneys Synod raced to second place and Query from the Wheatley Stable readily took third from Silent Don Herendeth the only other starter jumped in the air as she left her stall and had no racing chance
