JOCKEY D BELLIZZI DIES Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in ina a Fall From Psychic Bid in inYouthful Youthful Stakes at Jamaica NEW YORK N Y May 17 Dominick Duke Bellizzi died at Mary Immaculate Hospital Jamaica Thursday morning from injuries suffered when he fell from the Brookmeade Stables twoyearold Psychic Bid during the running of the Youthful Stakes last Saturday at Jamaica The acci ¬ dent a strange one in the annals of racing happened as Psychic Bid neared the stretch turn after showing the way from the start Psychic Bid began to bear out when he was racing at his highest speed Bellizzi in an effort to keep him in used both hands on the left rein and becoming unbalanced fell over Plat Eye was racing back of him and the boy fell in the path of this twoyearold Coucci made an effort to avoid him but it was of no avail availBellizzi Bellizzi was rushed to the Jamaica Hos ¬ pital where his condition was pronounced as grave He was operated upon late Sunday afternoon Doctors Russell and Poole were called into consultation Monday and they held out little hope for his recovery Trainer Smith and Mrs Isabel Dodge Sloane owner of the Brookmeade Stable journeyed to the hospital upon their return from Pimlico where they witnessed High Quests triumph in the Preakriess The noted sportswoman left instructions that the boy receive the best of care and should any change in his condition occur she be notified at once When informed of the boys death she was greatly upset upsetBellizzi Bellizzi was twentytwo years of age and began his racing career with the Rancocas Stable as an exercise boy He went to Flor ¬ ida with Bub May the following winter and upon his return the Rancocas Stable was dissolved May then secured Bellizzis con ¬ tract from H F Sinclair and the boy joined Continued on twentieth page JOCKEY D BELLIZZI DIES Continued from first page the stable in charge of Don Cameron Later he joined the Brookmeade Stable and rode with pronounced success successBellizzi Bellizzi is survived by his widowed moth ¬ er four brothers and three sisters He was their chief support His home was at 51 Plains Avenue New Rochelle N Y and he was born in Albania Southern Europe coming to this country with his parents when a child childA A dispensation is being sought from the Catholic church to bury Bellizzi Sunday from the home of his mother in New Ro ¬ chelle The move was instituted by the late jockeys fellow riders and hundreds of horsemen The requiem mass will be sung Monday morning at the Holy Family Church New Rochelle and interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Father Hart a friend of Bob Smith is handling the negotiations for the dispensa ¬ tion
