MANI STARS AT AURORA ipp MacMaster Horses Also Prominent During Afternoon Bun On and The Break Account for Prin ¬ cipal Races on Program Kissin bug Wins Opener AURORA 111 May 17 The riding of ap ¬ prentice Hank Manifold and the success of the Shipp MacMaster horses were out ¬ standing among the features of todays Au ¬ rora racing when Run On and The Break accounted for the fourth and fifth races on the program The latter race called the Naperville Claiming Purse which occupied the feature position on the card was the best race of the day and brought out six of the better grade distance performers for a contest over one mile and seventy yards and resulted in another spirited finish when the winner and Longus came to the finish under punishment and fighting it out game ¬ ly for honors with the victor holding three quarters of a length advantage as they fin ¬ ished In third place and two lengths far ¬ ther back was Captain Danger in third place while Celtic Prince Bob Weidel and Ser ¬ geant Hill finished in the order named namedStarter Starter Wingfield caught the field in al ¬ most perfect alignment as they stepped into the starting machine and sent them away at once As they made their way to the first turn Harbort sent Captain Danger to the front but he was closely followed by Celtic Prince and Sergeant Hill as they raced the first quarter Captain Danger continued to show the way to the half but his margin was but a head and then The Break moved up to even terms as they raced around the turn Manifold sent the winner up on the outside but he could not head Captain Dan ¬ ger and they indulged in a bitter struggle to the final eighth where The Break finally shook him off but he had another con ¬ tender to do battle with when Longus moved up with his belated rush and offered strong opposition His charge fell short however despite his finishing strongest strongestSummerlike Summerlike weather prevailed throughout the day and was a big factor in luring an ¬ other large crowd to the track trackShipp Shipp MacMaster furnished the winner of the fourth race in Run On when he was victorious in one of the most thrilling fin ¬ ishes of the meeting coming to the end so closely aligned with the Dixiana stables Flashing Thru that only the judges were in a position to make an accurate placing Six lengths back of the two leaders came Aurica to account for third leading home Commis ¬ sioner Kennedy Vennie H and the well backed Polyphote PolyphoteRun Run On and Flashing Thru held the lead ¬ ing positions throughout and raced in close formation almost from the start and while Flashing Thru went down to defeat he did so in a game manner After being headed midway in the stretch he came again to gain the lead but Run On was not to be denied and offered such strong contention that Flashing Thru was unable to meet the demands and gave way right at the end The performance of Polyphote was such a disappointment to the patrons that they booed the Davison horse when she returned to the scales scalesKissinbug Kissinbug made it two in a row when she brought the Shandon Farm colors to the front in the first race after a strenuous duel with Jay D Under a smart and strong ride by the veteran R Heigle Kissinbug man ¬ aged to get a head decision over the Mikel colt which led for the most part of the dis ¬ tance only to tire in the closing strides and give way to the rush of the winner Jimmy N an outsider in the betting closed in third place placeThe The race was marred by some rough rid ¬ ing which occurred midway of the stretch and in which Mere Satin and Imprimis were the chief sufferers Aunt Marie turned in a disappointing performance when after rac ¬ ing to the leader with ease she was allowed to go almost to the outside fence which virtually eliminated her from contention contentionThe The second race resulted as the betting indicated when Durga the favorite made good under a hustling ride by apprentice Otto Harbort when he drove the winner to the end half a length in front of King Faro while Lady La Marne was in close attend ¬ ance to take third thirdKing King Faro might have been best as he was forced to race in close quarters most of the way which hindered him from making progress and then in the closing stages the ride of P Keester was none too strong all of which benefited the winner winnerApprentice Apprentice R Koch who rode Kissie in the second race Wednesday donned the col ¬ ors for the first time at the meeting
