EQUIPOISE GOES FAST MILE NEW YORK N Y May 17 C V Whit ¬ ney journeyed to Belmont Park Thursday morning to witness the final trial of his champion Equipoise for the Metropolitan on Saturday Ridden by Workman and accom ¬ panied by Roustabout the first part of the journey Equipoise was under steady re ¬ straint and showed a high order of speed He was timed the first quarter mile in 23 seconds threeeighths in 35 half mile in 4G and the five furlongs in 59 seconds The six furlongs were covered in 112 and the seven furlongs in 126 At this point he drew away from his stablemate and Work ¬ man was waved down by trainer Healey The final time for the mile was 140 eased up through the final sixteenth
