DONNA JULIAS SECOND PURSE Fleet Mclaughlin Filly Again De ¬ feats Best Canadian Juveniles Lowers Five Furlongs Track Record at atThorncllffe Thorncllffe to 59 Idle Victory VictoryTakes Takes Second Place TORONTO Ont June 1 Once agai Donna Julia fleet daughter of Stimulus and Gentle Julia which races for R S McLaugh lin showed her heels to the best of th juveniles racing in Canada It was the sec ¬ ond start of the Stimulus miss and the sec ond successive triumph Donna Julias latest victory came in the Toronto Flying Clubs Purse an allowance affair over five fur ¬ longs and the best race of the Aviation Day program Following the winner past the line came E F Seagrams Idle Victory beaten five lengths while three lengths back of the Seagramowned filly Husky Lass was third in the silks of W I Newmarch NewmarchIn In capturing this condition affair Donna Julia established a new track record for the five furlongs distance when she was timed in 59 59Save Save fol the first couple of strides in which Little Dinah showed in front Donna Julia was always mistress of the situation racing into a good lead in the first six ¬ teenth Idle Victory moved up fast and was just showing the way to Little Dinah as she held to second place Mann had the Mc Laughlin filly under restraint as she con ¬ tinued to increase her lead on the turn from the back stretch Husky Lass had been rather slow to settle into her best stride but passing the three furlongs mark started to show improved speed speedIn In the last quarter Mann permitted Donna Julia to step along and she drew away with each succeeding stride Idle Victory had given her best but was simply not good enough to cope with the winner Mann when far in advance of the others began taking the Stimulus miss in hand The Seagram representative continued with good courage to the end and though well beaten had scant trouble in earning second place Whila there was nothing much to the running aa far as first and second places were con ¬ cerned a lively duel was going on for the minor split with Husky Lass gaining third in the final strides from Little Dinah Tha others had cut no figure in the running and were beaten off offDonna Donna Julia was held at odds on and re ¬ turned the short mutuel of 270 Another large crowd was on hand to take advantage of the last Ladies Day of the meeting Though the weather was slightly cooler than the previous days of the meeting conditions left little to be desired desiredThere There were only two fortunate to couple Tullihoo winner of the opening race and Kingswood in the third in the Daily Dou ¬ ble and for their 5 they received tha large return of 2187 This was a Canadian bred affair over six furlongs and engaged eleven ordinary performers Mestallup and Babe Gaiety after establishing the early pace both tired inside the last sixteenth and there came a general closing up thirty yards from the finish and any one of the leading four appeared to be in a position to score Kingswood on the outside had more left than the others and in the last strides drew clear clearKingswood Kingswood rewarded with the substantial mutuel of 6555 for the usual 2 ducat
