WASHOUT IN CLOSE FINISH Outlasts Vacillate by a Nose in inCharles Charles Towns Feature Jockey JockeyPalumbo Palumbo Stars CHARLES TOWN W Va June 1 Washout carried the silks of Mrs E I Shrewbridge to a nose victory over W I Newmarchs Vacillate in the featured five furlongs race of the Maryland Club at Charles Town today Third honors went to Martin Finns Silverdale which was a half length in the wake of the winner at the finish The winner was ridden by jockey S Palumbo and the victory completed a riding double for him as he was astride Strange Times in the opening dash dashWashout Washout showed good speed from the start and quickly raced Noajoyce into de ¬ feat On the back stretch she was chal ¬ lenged by Silverdale while Vacillate was bettering her position Washout outgamed Silverdale but when the stretch was reached a new threat loomed as Vacillate drove up threatingly Throughout the stretch drive the pair battled for supremacy and at the end Vacillate was wearing the winner down but just failed to get up Silverdale hung on stubbornly and was but a half length back of the first pair as the finish line was reached reachedIdeal Ideal weather again prevailed for the days sport and the attendance picked up consid ¬ erably over that of Thursday
