ROUT IRISH HOME FORCES Three English Trained Invaders Share Irish Derby Honors Joseph E Widencrs Autumn Third to Pa ¬ triotic King and Primero in Their Dead Heat DUBLIN Ireland June 29 The English trained invaders the Irishowned and bred William Barnetts Primero the English owned and bred James De Rothschilds Patriotic King and the Americanowned but Frenchbred Autumn owned by J E Wid ener had the finish of the Irish Derby run over the famous Curragh course in the County oi Kildare all io themselves The race ended in a thrilling finish with the judge unable to separate Primero and Pa ¬ triotic King as they flashed past him call ¬ ing the race a dead heat Two lengths far ¬ ther back Autumn took third money Thus the Irish home defense was completely routed It was the second dead heat in the premier Irish classic in postwar years as the late C F Kenyons Haine and Col Giles Lodors Spike Island could not be separated at the finish of the 1921 Derby renewal renewalBred Bred by his owner William Barnett at the Cloghran Stud County Dublin Primero is an own brother to last years Irish Derby and St Leger winner Harinero and also to the 1929 DerbySt Leger and Irish St Leger winner Trigo being a bay son of Blandford Athgreany by His Majesty or Galloping Simon Fairy Land by Lesterlin from Stella by Necromancer NecromancerPrimero Primero graduated from the maiden ranks in the Derby Last year as a twoyearold he raced four times without success his best effort being third in the six furlongs Rous Memorial Stakes ut Goodwood This season he had previously finished cut of the money in the Derby Trial Stakes at Kempton Park last month and also in the Derby in which he finished no better than tenth tenthPatriotic Patriotic King bred by his owner James De Rothschild is a bay son of Bolingbroke Grandissma which raced six times last year as a twoyearold without success his best effort being two seconds In three previous races this season he was once the winner and once second before finishing eighth in the Derby at Epsom EpsomPatriotic Patriotic King broke from the maiden ranks at the Newmarket Craven meeting in April when he won over a distance of one mile At the same track a month later he was runnerup to Tiberius in the mile and a half Payne Stakes StakesAutumn Autumn a bay son of Stefan the Great Spring III bred by his American owner J E Widener at the Haras de Nesnil France won two of his three starts as a twoyearold and this season has been thrice in the money in as many starts deadheat ¬ ing for the Rothschild Plate at the Man ¬ chester meeting last month
