FAIRMOUNT FOOTING CHANGES Heavy Rain Makes Track Sloppy for Fridays Plater Program Downpour Breaks Heat Wave Largest Crowd of Week Watches Interest ¬ ing and Exciting Sport COLLINSVILLE 111 June 29 Failing to fill the Maplewood Handicap which was at a mile for threeyearolds and over racing secretary Leigh was forced to schedule seven claiming races for todays program at Fairmount Park four of which were sprints The fifth race a claiming affair was sub ¬ stituted for the Maplewood Handicap and was decided over the mile route It attracted eight platers including Atmosphere winner of four races this year Nanny D also I credited with a quartet of victories in 1934 Ruth Jelinek and Mary McCarthy consis ¬ tent winners here Others competing were Mbkan Clovinia Marcella Agnes and Judge G GHorses Horses partial to soft footing had their second chance at the meeting to earn brack ¬ ets over an off track A heavy rain drenched the course at noon and the fast track pre ¬ vailing this morning was turned to sloppy going The downpour broke the heat wave and the largest crowd of the week was on hand for the sport sportShowing Showing a liking for the going Raffles Problem which races for the Old Gold Stable made it three wins at the meeting when he took the first race in easy fash ¬ ion from Willa T Adelia A and nine other twoyearolds which raced over five fur ¬ longs longsThe The son of Raffles had J Dyer in the saddle and the veteran allowed Willa T and Adelia A to set the early pace while racing close up Entering the stretch Raf ¬ fles Problem was lapped on Willa T and in the stretch passed Willa T with ease pulling up five lengths before the second horse Willa T was easily best of Adelia A which barely lasted to save third from Jack Chevigny by a head headEleven Eleven threeyearolds and older met in the second race and Judge Dixon the favorite earned his first purse in some time when he was an easy winner over Barcardi Sweep a field horse with Equation third thirdThe The winner was rated in front by Leyland and after shaking off Equation and Traplou held Barcardi Sweep safe in the stretch run pulling up with a five lengths advantage while Barcardi Sweep was a length before the tiring Equation
