LASSIE STAKES SATURDAY One of Richest Juvenile Filly Races of Tear Next Big Attraction at Arlington. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 5.— Another large field in an Arlington Park major attraction is indicated by the fashion in which Saturdays running of the 5,000 Arlington Lassie Stakes is shaping up. The six-furlong event promises to be a real contest, with the West in a position to throw powerful opposition against the crack juvenile fillies sent here from the East. The eastern invasion is headed by Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitneys Motto, which arrived here earlier in the week in the car that also brought Morton L. Schwartz Good Gamble, a winner in handy fashion Wednesday at the first asking. Motto, a handsome daughter of Sir Galla-had III. and Maxima, was given her final preparation for the Lassie, which promises to be the richest filly race of the year, this morning by trainer Jack Healey. She displayed fine speed in the sloppy going, running the first quarter in :22%, three-eighths in :34%, half mile in :46%, five-eighths in :59 and three-quarters in 1:15%. She was pulled almost to a walk in the late stages, as Healey flagged her down. "Sonny" Workman is due here from New York to guide Motto. Good Gamble proved that she is ready by the manner in which she defeated Toro Nancy, Royal Duchess and other Lassie eligibles in a sprint of five and one-half furlongs in 1:05%. Allowing for improvement, the daughter of Chance Play and Triangle must be classified among the leading contenders in Saturdays feature. Starting against the eastern representatives, which also includes the Belair Studs Vicaress, will be such capable western fillies as Mrs. Roy Carruthers Bye Lo, Milky Way Farms Irksome, Elmer Dale Shaffers Joy-bird and Mrs. John Hertz Royal Duchess. Bye Los splendid performance behind Black Helen several days ago gained her many admirers and she will riot lack for support Saturday. The probable field follows. Horse. Wt. Jockey. Vicaress 117 D.
