THE HEATHEN, prominently placed from the start, wore down CHAIN leaving the back stretch and, drawing clear, just lasted under hard riding. PERIODICAL, slow to get into his best stride, was taken to the outside near the stretch and, closing fast on the outside, would probably have won in another stride. POLYFON, saved close up, held on gamely. LAMP BLACK, outrun early, closed with a rush in the last eighth. CHAIN had good speed, but tired through the stretch. HAPPY SCOT quit in the stretch. CHARLIE DAWN, away in the first flight and restrained close to the pacemaker, went to the outside of the leaders in the stretch and wore down WAX in the final strides. WAX, close up from the start, took the lead when RIVER ROSE began tiring, but could not hold the winner. DOZANA, far back early, lacked speed for five sixteenths, moved up on the outside thereafter and finished with a rush. COLOR BEARER, close up throughout, was unable to reach the leaders under brisk urging. RIVER ROSE tired badly in the closing quarter after showing early speed. The latter moved up steadily leaving the back stretch and, closing with a rush on the outside through the stretch, was fast overtaking the winner. PROSECUTOR, away first and steadied in front, increased his advantage entering the stretch, then tired. RUSTIC JOE closed gamely.
