B. B. STABLE SCORES DOUBLE Trainer Hirsch Jacobs and Jockey Chanove Share Honors. ♦ Jockey S. Renick Also in Limelight at Empire With Two Winners — Modern Ace Best. — » NEW YORK, N. Y„ July 24.— Hirsch Jacobs, the B. B. Stable and apprentice L. Chanove all chalked up a double at the Hilltop course today, and one score came in the best offering of the Empire City Association when Modern Ace wa3 winner of the Knollwood Purse, a mile and seventy yards race for platers. The other victory was when Bird Lore beat a band of cheap juveniles over the five furlongs route. Sammy Renick also had a riding double during the day when he piloted both Jobak-heta and Chimney Top. The program was given over to horses of the cheapest quality, but the fields were large and there was plenty of competition in each event. Another large crowd was out and weather conditions were all that could be desired. In the Knollwood Purse, that went to Modern Ace, Black Watch was the one to force most of the pace, and it was only in the final sixteenth that he dropped out of the battle. In the early racing Modern Ace, showing more early speed than usual, went closely after him, but Dunbar, which left slowly from a position outside the stalls, was rushed through on the inside and at the half mile ground had headed Black Watch. Anna V. L. was not far back of these, and Instigator was within striking distance. Then Chanove eased Modern Ace back slightly as the pace quickened, and Anna V. L. made her move to head Black Watch. These relays that went after the son of St. James were wearing him down and, when the stretch was reached, he began to shorten his stride; then it was that Chanove moved again with Modern Ace, and it was a winning move. The son of Flying Ebony raced past the leaders readily when called on, to win going away by two lengths. Anna V. L. had stuck it out to save second place by a length, and Instigator beat the tired Black Watch by a neck for third. Dunbar quit to finish last, and the others cut no figure in the running. Sammy Renick, by a vigorous ride through the stretch, landed Mrs. Richard Hermans Jobakheta winner over the plater juveniles that came together in the opening five and a half furlongs dash. It was a close fit with Thomas B. Gays Canterboy, and the Greentree Stables Alaric was lapped on the pair of them. There came a victory for the B. B. Stable in the third race when Bird Lore outfooted a big band of cheap juveniles in a five furlongs dash. M. J. Meyers Molly raced to second place and Ernest Pintos Blue Bubble beat Evasive for third. From a good start Bird Lore was soon in command, and Cha-, nove hustled him along to such good advantage that he never was headed. At the end he was j oing away, with five lengths to •pare. As bad a field as has been seen under silks in New York all season met in the third race, at five and three-quarters, and-it brought victory to Chimney Top, one that began his racing career under the silks of the Greentree Stable. Mrs. Harriet Planners Flowery closed a big gap to take second place and F. W. Bennetts Three Grand just saved third from Dancing Boy. This completed a riding double for Sammy Renick, his other score being with Jobakheta in the opening dash.
