BERWYN HANDICAP ATTRACTS Response of Horsemen to First of Such Races at Hawthorne Indi ¬ cates New Policys Popularity CICERO 111 July 27 The response of horsemen to the first handicap of the thirty day Hawthorne meeting the 1200 Berwyn Handicap at six furlongs which will fea ¬ ture the eightrace opening day card on Monday indicates conclusively that lacing secretary Francis Dunne is going to have no trouble in filling the races for horses of the better class which are so plentiful in his initial condition book bookAmong Among the early entries for the race are such capable performers as Ed Trotters Isaiah John Marschs Princess Camelia the Corsicana Stables trio of Bien Fait Clarify and Croon and Joseph E Wideners Chance Line and the Audley Farm pair of Gig ¬ gling and Bright Shadow ShadowAlthough Although the weights are not due until Saturday afternoon the Corsicana entry was winning considerable advance support and only the placing of heavy imposts on the three thoroughbreds named for the race is likely to remove them from the post of public choice Bien Fait the threeyearold jirauiey uasb UJL LUUL yvaa cuiiaiuci cu a rcai threat to the ranking members of the three yearold division in the earlier stakes i likely to carry the stables hopes Although Bien Fait has indicated that he is not par ¬ tial to the longer routes necessary for a threeyearold stake winner he has made it plain by making the pace in some of the important threeyearold stakes that he may be a hard horse to beat over the six furlongs of the Berwyn BerwynBecause Because of the response to the opening handicap racing secretary Dunne plans to duplicate his program of six handicaps a week in the condition book for the second week of Hawthorne racing which is now in process of preparation More capable two yearolds than usual are available for Haw ¬ thorne racing this season including Jack Howards good Albuquerque and the book for the second week will contain several twoyearold handicaps that are planned as test races for Hawthorne juvenile division eligibles
